    May I suggest prismarine shards for the sticks and a diamond on the upmost right corner? Just to reflect the rarity of the trident.

    man oh man do I have the data pack for you

    in seriousness though, I agree. In PVE the trident is objectively better than the axe, so i feel that 3 diamonds is a minimum for a balanced recipe.
