Underneath Village Wells are one of 5 dungeon challenges, with chests containing decent early game loot, and probably too many mobs.

The dungeons consist of:

Cave/mineshaft dungeon: featuring creepers, spiders, cobwebs and TNT.
Ice dungeon: Featuring Ice, powder snow, husks and polar bears.
Water dungeon: Completely underwater, featuring Guardians, drowneds and sea lanterns
Lava dungeon: Featuring a Lava floor, magma and magma cubes. (Also Hay Bales to block the fall instead of water)
Slime dungeon: A lot rarer than the other 4, features a large slime, a slime tree with a melon trunk, and lime carpets.

Attached in alt download is a datapack which guarantees villages will spawn with a well, because most don't anymore
