Fishing Campaign
40 real-life fish species • 4 rarities • 100 angler levels • Vanilla loot rewards
Lightweight, conflict-free and server-friendly. Works on Vanilla and NeoForge 1.21.1.
Turn fishing into a real long-term adventure! Fishing Campaign adds 40 special fish based on real species, each with its own name, lore and unique effects when eaten. Level up as an angler across 100 levels, improve your odds of landing rare catches, and earn random vanilla treasure every time you level up.
No new textures, no resource pack needed: special fish use the normal Minecraft fish models with custom names, colored rarities and descriptions, so the pack fits perfectly into any world or modpack.
π£ How it works
Every time you reel in a fish, there is a 30% chance it turns into a special fish. Junk and treasure catches are never touched.
Special fish come in four rarities:
- Uncommon (green) - 60%
- Rare (blue) - 30%
- Epic (purple) - 9%
- Legendary (gold, enchanted glint) - 1%
π Eat them for powerful effects
Special fish can be eaten straight away, no cooking needed. Every species gives different effects, and the rarer the fish, the stronger and longer they are:
- Uncommon: 1 effect, level I, 15 to 90 seconds
- Rare: 1 or 2 effects, up to level II, 2 to 4 minutes
- Epic: 2 effects, up to level III, up to 5 minutes (can be eaten even when full)
- Legendary: 3 effects, up to level III, 5 to 10 minutes (can be eaten even when full)
Every fish shows its exact effects and durations in its tooltip.
π 100 Angler Levels
Every fish you catch gives Angler XP:
- Regular fish: 1 XP
- Uncommon: 3 XP
- Rare: 8 XP
- Epic: 25 XP
- Legendary: 100 XP
Reaching level 100 is very hard: over 355,000 XP in total, about 50,000 catches. It is a true long-term goal for dedicated anglers.
Each level makes you a better angler:
- Special fish chance: 30% → 70% at level 100
- Legendary odds: 1% → 5%
- Epic odds: 9% → 20%
- Rare odds: 30% → 40%
π Level-up rewards
Every level-up drops a random roll from vanilla loot tables, and the loot gets better as you level:
- Levels 1-24: dungeons, mineshafts, shipwreck supplies, fisherman houses, igloos, ruined portals
- Levels 25-49: shipwreck treasure, desert and jungle temples, pillager outposts, nether fortresses, buried treasure
- Levels 50-74: strongholds, woodland mansions, bastions
- Levels 75-99: End cities, ancient cities, bastion treasure
- Every 10 levels: an extra bonus treasure
- Level 100: four big treasure rolls at once
Loot tables that generate explorer maps are excluded on purpose, since they can freeze servers while searching for structures.
π£ Legendary announcements
When someone lands a legendary fish, the whole server sees a stylish congratulation message in chat. Server operators can turn it off at any time.

βοΈ Performance and compatibility
Built for big modded servers:
- No tick functions. Code only runs when someone catches a fish, plus a tiny once-per-second check for the stats command.
- Overrides nothing. No vanilla loot tables, recipes or advancements are replaced. Everything lives in its own namespace (fishcamp), so it will not clash with other datapacks or mods.
- Fake players from automation mods are ignored, so automatic fishing machines cannot cause lag or abuse.
- Exploit-safe. Pulling dropped fish with your rod does not count as a catch.
- Private messages. Catch messages are only shown to the angler, except for the optional legendary announcement.
- Tested on Vanilla 1.21.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 servers with zero errors.
π₯ Installation
- Download the .zip file (do not unzip it).
- Put it in your world's datapacks folder: .minecraft/saves/<your world>/datapacks or <server>/world/datapacks.
- Run /reload or restart the world.
ποΈ Uninstalling
- Run /function fishcamp:uninstall.
- Run /datapack disable "file/Fishing Campaign.zip" (check the exact name with /datapack list).
- Delete the .zip from the datapacks folder.
Do not run /reload between steps 1 and 2, or the pack will reinstall itself. Special fish already in players' inventories keep working after uninstalling, since they are normal Minecraft items.
β FAQ
Do I need a resource pack?
No. Special fish use the vanilla fish models.
Does it work on Fabric, Forge or Paper?
It is a pure vanilla datapack for 1.21.1, so any platform that supports vanilla datapacks should work. It has been tested on Vanilla and NeoForge.
Can I put special fish in a furnace?
Please don't! Special fish that look like cod or salmon will turn into plain cooked fish and lose their name and effects. Just eat them raw.
Does it work with fishing mods?
Yes. The pack only reacts to fish in the vanilla #minecraft:fishes tag and never replaces fishing loot, so mods that add their own fishing loot keep working normally.
Enjoy the catch, and good luck finding a Coelacanth! π£
