Grian's Dungeons
Grian's Dungeons add 7 new dungeon variations to your Survival World, all of which are based off of the designs by the YouTuber Grian in his video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWABA_HcH4g

Each type is biome-specific, adding a little more reason to go exploring!

This Datapack is relatively lightweight and multiplayer compatible, the only notable increases in lag may occur when generating large numbers of new chunks. It is preferred that all players use a render distance of at least 8, however 10+ is optimal.


NOTE: This datapack should be loaded as soon as a world is created, before other players join and before any exploring has occured. DO NOT TELEPORT TO NEW CHUNKS as the generation spreads throughout your world as you explore.

If I put this on a minecraft server that players have already been on will the new dungeons generate in unloaded chunks or is there a command I can use to make them generate?

Hi. LOVE this datapack... but...

I'm in 1.15.2 survival world with cheats enabled and as I begin exploring the fps stays the same (130ish) but the ms/tick start to take a hit. They go from 10 or so as I spawn in to into the 100's just a few hundred blocks away and lags worse and worse the more I explore. I have quite a few other datapacks installed, but only removing this one solved the issue and ms/tick are now steadily in the mid 20's regardless what I do or how far I explore.

Is there a way to fix this? The description says it's relatively lightweight, but the way they generate seems a bit odd, you can't teleport to unloaded chunks? (what about nether portals to travel long overworld distances?)

Sadly, if there's no fix for this I won't be able to include this on my server, and I'd really, really like too!

Any help?

Also, what is the maximum distance you could teleport and still have the generation work? Reason: I'm thinking of using an AFK world generation command/datapack to load in the world automatically. The datapack I'd use teleports me 100 blocks every 15 seconds (the time is adjustable) would that break this datapacks generation method?

Also, does this only work in ungenerated chunks or would it work in an already generated world if you load it and start close to 0,0?

It'll generate in already generated terrain, custom generation, and normal generation.

The datapack generates the dungeons by spawning armorstand in a radius around you at layer 1.
It should normally get rid of the armor stand once the dungeon generates.
If I was to make a guess another pack might be stopping the armor stands from properly generate the dungeon so they don't despawn, or it doesn't despawn at all. Have you found any of the dungeons from this datapack yet before the lag hits? Also you might be able to test if it is armor stands not despawning you can use /kill @e[​type=armor_stand] and see if that gets rid of the lag

I'm using the 1.15.1 earth map custom world from "http://earth.motfe.net/" and have been trying to get the desert, mesa, and tundra with little success. I've tried adding more blocks to the gdn/tags/blacks to cover the none-vanilla terrains but still haven't seen a single tundra spawn and very few desert/mesas. Is there a way to alter their spawn method to work better in a custom terrain? The sea level is still 62 and the blocks in gdn/tags/blocks are represented and I'm in version: 1.15.1

Out of curiosity, is this strictly only for the first version of 1.14.0 and not any other 1.14.+? I am running on 1.14.4 and I tried both having the folder zipped and unzipped with no luck.

Glad you asked, and no it does not break it, this is fully multiplayer compatible. Sorry it took so long to respond I've been busy.



Unless you mean something else by "pre-generating," because the dungeons simply generate as you explore regardless of player count.

Sounds like you don't have commands enabled on your world-
Are you sure you're Opped and cheats are enabled? That's the only likely reason for this issue.

This seems to crash my server after about 5-10 minutes of running. When testing only one player was on at a time. When using this datapack it spams the console with 'fetching removed entity: armor_stand' or something along the lines. I'm assuming that's apart of your generating system since it uses armor stands and removes them.

Odd. I hadn't encountered that issue but I'll look into it. I'm not sure what exactly would be crashing it though, I'll have to do some more testing. Thank you for letting me know.

I just started playing minecraft again and am using mods. Super duper awesome mod! The dungeons were always so bland. Please feel free to direct me to any other datapacks (or mods, 1.14 fabric) that perhaps add things to minecraft. I have one from endershost that changes villages, and one that adds random structures to find and stuff, but I just wish there was more to find when exploring and more things to do.

Anyways - Yeah, I've had this mod installed and have found two custom dungeons so far, just a regular mossycobble dungeon, with all the webs and the traps, which makes them so much better lol. The other one was a desert one that had a husk spawner. Are husk spawners naturally occuring, or did the mod add that? I made a grinder out of the husk zombie one, and it seems they may spawn slightly less often then regular zombie spawners, but I could be wrong, haven't tested anything it's just what it seemed like.

I've had no crashes though, pretty awesome mod!

To the dude getting the crashes, are you 100% sure its this mod? I'd take this out and see if it crashes. If it doesn't, I assume another mod is conflicting with it. Gonna have to test and find which one it is.

Ok the fact you keep calling this a "mod" is upsetting me it a data pack not a mod mods are changing minecraft code datapacks use minecraft commands to change things.

Hi Kkai! I understand your frustration, sorry for taking so long to respond I don't check this very often! I just wanted to let you know that a data-pack and a mod are pretty much the same thing.
Mods (modifications) to the game, do not really change the code necessarily, they do add many textures and files though, adding more and more to the game! A data pack can work similarly.

This data pack, for example, has custom textures, which can not be achieved by using Minecraft commands, they had to add a texture to it and upload that into the game.

A mod is really any alteration to the game that changes the way it performs, so datapacks can be mod's as well.

well datapacks are added to the minecraft file folder and with mods you need an external program such as forge to use.

Wow. Thank you very much! Haven't installed it yet, once I get home I'll check it out. Seems like a pretty awesome mod. I had seen a few mods for mobs before that only changed default mobs, and like made it where if you attacked one, all of them in a radius came to help, and they traveled in groups of 3 or 4. Those didn't seem like any fun. This one seems awesome though, adding rare encounters of certain boss-type mobs and such. Can't wait to check this one out, thanks again!

If the solution is to recreate an armour stand at the bottom of the world, it won't work. The generation is dependant on the armour stands remaining EXACTLY 16 blocks away from one another, and teleporting could go to anywhere within the chunk. Trying to force the entity into, say, the southeastern-most corner of the chunk is technically possible but not particularly reliable.

If your idea differs from that then I'd love to hear it!

whenever the player enters the new chunck (eg. via Nether, checked by detecting if there's marker in 16x16 area at ~ 0 ~ of the player) it will take his X and Z coordinates to scoreboard and divade it by 16 (result will be rounded down) and then it will put these numbers into armor stand Pos[] using /execute store result with <scale> set to 16

How do you mean "as soon as the world is created?" Isn't it impossible to create a new world WITHOUT spawning in it?

I just did a quick test in a superflat world to make sure this datapack was working and I couldn't find any. :(

As soon as you load the world would've been a more accurate explanation. I meant before any exploring or anything, just to make sure that on multiplayer everyone will continue generating them



And no, they won't generate in a superflat as they will only generate above y=10 in a cave with a wall, if no cave is found by y=50 there won't be a dungeon, and if no wall is found in said caves within 20 (I think, can't remember the exact number) blocks of the scanned region then it also will not generate. The only exception to this is the desert/mesa dungeons which will generate between y=50 and y=150 where sand is present, and ocean dungeons that will only generate in oceans (go figure) between y=20 and y=42 on the ocean floor, and there has to be at least 18 (maybe 20) blocks of water above that point or more.

it's possible by making first empty folder with name that you want on your world and then create inside it folder called datapacks and put the datapack inside it.
