Hop TP – Vanilla Balanced Gateways

Hop TP is a lightweight, vanilla-style teleportation system designed for Minecraft 1.21 survival gameplay.

It adds non-OP gateways that let players travel between distant points of the world in a balanced way,
without replacing elytra, minecarts or other ways of travelling.

The system uses lodestones, carpets, and a variety of items as fuel to function.

Read on to learn how to build, activate, and use Hop TP gateways on the WIKI.

📦 How It Works

Setting up a gateway is actually really intuitive and only takes a few seconds, but here is a full explanation if needed.

1. Creating a Gateway

  • Place a carpet on a lodestone block to create a new gateway.
  • Once the gateway is created:
    • Rotating particles will appear above the carpet in a circular pattern.
    • A floating “?” text will indicate that the destination is not yet set.

2. Setting a destination

  • To set the gateway’s destination, use a lodestone compass that is tracking a location.

  • Right-click the gateway particles with the lodestone compass:
    • If a existing gateway is at the tracked location, the destination will be linked successfully. Otherwise, it won't do anything.
    • The floating text will update to show the destination coordinates or a custom name (if the compass was renamed using an anvil).

  • If the destination is correctly configured, a circle of flames will appear around the gateway.

3. Fueling the Gateway

  • Gateways need fuel to function.

  • The farther the destination, the more fuel required.

  • Different items provide varying fuel amounts.
    Fuel values:
    • Redstone – 1
    • Diamond – 30
    • Emerald – 50
    • Nether Star – Infinite
(Check the full wiki for additional fuel values.)

  • To add fuel, click on the gateway with the fuel item in hand.

4. Activation

  • When the gateway has enough fuel for the journey,
the flame circle will turn blue, signaling that the gateway is ready for use.

💫 Time to teleport!

  • Step onto the gateway to teleport once it’s fully configured and fueled.
  • The teleport will need time to happen, it can go from 1 second to 50 seconds depending on the distance.
  • The gateway system is designed to be balanced and non-overpowered, encouraging strategic use in survival worlds.

🔧 Settings & Configuration

The datapack is also meant to be configured.

The user just needs to modify the config.mcfunction file variables and call /reload again.

Here to the original Config.mcfunction on github.

📝 Summary

  • Build a Gateway: Carpet + Lodestone block.
  • Set Destination: Use a lodestone compass on the gateway particles (destination must have another gateway).
  • Fuel the Gateway: Use items like redstone, diamonds, or emeralds.
  • Travel: Step into the gateway when the flame circle turns blue!
  • Configurations: Price too high? Max distance too short? Fuels too poor? Modify config.mcfunction
