Minecraft has since beta 1.8 been going further away from the survival aspect which made the game even somewhat challenging in prior versions. Lithic is an attempt to vindicate what minecraft has evolved to be, and return to the roots of early beta.
Lithic attempts to fix the progression of the game by dividing the game into distinct periods; to give the game a feeling of real progression. No blocks are breakable by hand, and require the proper tool through use of adventure mode. More of the vanilla game mechanics have been made necessary to progress to the endgame, and keep being necessary throughout.
Features:
General Changes
- No blocks are breakable without the appropriate tool. The game is in adventure mode.
- Custom vanilla shaders make the dark pitch black.
- Health regeneration is disabled, and sleeping in a wool bed now heals the player. Potions are no longer obsolete, and combat is actually dangerous.
- Birch polypores now spawn on birch trees, clearing poison and regenerating 1 heart upon consumation.
- No hostile mobs except spiders spawn on the surface. Hoglins now spawn in most forests, and provide danger all day
- Metal tools are now crafted from a stick and the respective tool head.
- Saws and Scythes are now craftable.
- Planks can no longer be crafted, and have to be sawed out from stripped logs.
- Scythes can be used to cut tall grass to get hay, to make hay bales.
- Goat horns now give a 10 second strength boost upon use.
- Bee nests now drop honeycombs when broken.
- Jute now spawns in the world.
Stone Age
- Throughout the stone age the player is limited to crafting and storing items in their inventory.
- Torches now require jute and either fat or honeycombs to craft, and have to be lit on a campfire.
- Animals drop both fat and hides. Hides have to be tanned with bark and water from a bucket or bottle.
- Can't mine stone or make planks.

Copper and Bronze Age
- Like the true bronze age, there exist an intermediate copper age before the player is able to craft bronze.
- Tools and ingots are cast.
- Access to superior tools that can mine stone and saw out planks.
- Access to barrels, the first proper storage.
- Copper and Bronze tools oxidize over time.
- Both copper and tin now spawns in the world, with richer veins further down.

Iron Age
- Lime now drops from pointed dripstone, and is needed as flux when smithing.
- Iron and steel tools now have to be smithed on a smithing table.
- Iron can be cast for higher yields, and steel can be cast from iron and netherite scraps.

- Kill animals for bone
- Use a bone to destroy gravel for flint, rocks, and copper nuggets.
- Make flint-bone tools, stone tools and a crude copper pickaxe.
- Mine mud and clay for crucibles and mud bricks
- Grow wheat for straw to make unfired pottery and a bed.
- Break bee nests for honey combs, or strip a spruce for resin for the casting mold
