You now have a thirst bar. When you first spawn in, it will say in chat that you have 15 minutes of thirst left. Each minute it will go down. Once it reaches 0, you start taking constant damage and will die. If you die, it resets you back to 15 minutes. If you drink a water bottle or potion, you regain 1 minute of thirst. You do not lose thirst in creative mode. Also:
If your thirst bar is at 8 minutes or lower: You gain slowness 1
If your thirst bar is at 6 minutes or lower: You gain weakness 1
If your thirst bar is at 4 minutes or lower: You gain slowness 2
If your thirst bar is at 2 minutes or lower: You gain weakness 2
If your thirst bar is at 1 minute or lower: You gain nausea and hunger
If your thirst bar is at 0 minutes: You start taking constant damage
