A lightweight data-pack for 1.17 that well, makes the void rise. Lag is handled well with falling blocks being killed to avoid sand blocks causing lag upon rising.
CURRENTLY INCOMPATIBLE WITH 1.18's -64 CAVE SPAWNING HEIGHT. Support will not be given until an eventual rewrite is done (long overdue).
Many of the code is old and may not be fully stable, a future update will be released to fix all of this soon. I would recommend Lava Rising or Water Rising for events like this for now.
Once installed, teleport to 0 0 (x and z), then run
function voidrising:prepare
This will ensure all functions are setup and ready to go. When you're ready run
function voidrising:start
Each player has one life and is placed into spectator mode once they're dead.
If you want to configure timings, change the values of warning_time and rising_time in the time scoreboard. These options are measured in ticks (1 second = 20 ticks)
For example, to make the intervals 10 seconds:
scoreboard players set rising_time time 200
and the warning every 8 seconds:
scoreboard players set warning_time 160

It's the noise and the words it's slightly interrupting me
as for the sound effects, run /scoreboard players set sound_effects global 0.
as for the text, i believe you can run /scoreboard players set rising_status global 0 (i've not tested this in a long time though).
