Battle it out in the well-known challenge of Minecraft, but the Lava Rises. Get time to prepare in the beginning stages before lava begins to engulf the world from the bottom to the top, who will come out victorious in the final battle? You have 1 life, once you die, you're out and left to spectate the game.
Once the game begins, you have a 60s starter period where PvP is disabled. After this, you have (by default) a 30m grace period to gather resources, gear up, and prepare for the battle. Once the grace period is over, the lava begins to rise from the bottom of the world to the top.
This datapack has recently received a new rewrite from the ground up, including many changes and improvements. If you have any issues or feature requests, leave them on PMC or Github!
If you are running your event on 1.17 and below, ensure you set legacy (in global) to 1. This ensures the height limit is set back down to pre-1.18.
/scoreboard players set legacy global 1
Gather some players together and when you're ready, run function lavarising:start and the game will begin. The game status will now appear on the bossbar at the top of the screen. Once the main period beings, the world border will have shrunk to 160 blocks and the lava will begin rising from y-64 to y316.
All settings can be easily customised in-game using the setup flow.

Thanks
In fact it would've been EASIER for you to make this without coding in an unnecessary requirement to have multiple players.
The saddest part is that I found this only a couple of weeks after Mojang made it impossible to run any alt accounts.
I've been trying to find a world download, or a datapack, or whatever, to do a lava rises thing, for two hours.
- run function lavarising:defaults
- run tp @e[tag=riser,limit=1] X -64 Y (replacing X and Y with the new coordinates you want)
- run worldborder center X Y (ditto, same as above)
- then teleport yourself to those coordinates
- and hope for the best..?
like i said, this functionality wasn't exactly planned for so sorry.
in my opinion it would be better to create a new world for the intended and tested experience.
