A lightweight and easy-to-use datapack that makes the lava rise from the bottom of the world to the top, forcing players to build up and attack, or get engulfed by the lava. You have 1 life, once you die, you're out and left to spectate the game. The last player remaining wins! This datapack is based on my previous Void Rising datapack, but has many improvements over it and is worth it's own upload.

Make sure you download the correct version of the datapack, depending on if you are running your event on 1.18 or 1.17 and below. This is due to the height limit changes.

Installation & Setup
For information on installing the datapack, check out plexion.dev (my website) Once the datapack is installed, you should be spawned inside a world border. If not, run function lavarising:defaults - this will reset all settings.

You can configure some optional changes (eg. timings) by editing the global scoreboard. As this datapack is based off of the Void Rising, some namespaces are shared.

For example, to make the intervals 10 seconds (1 second = 20 ticks):
scoreboard players set rising_time time 200
and the warning every 8 seconds:
scoreboard players set warning_time time 160
Game period timings are measured in seconds, rather than ticks. For example, to change one of the periods to 2 minutes, use:
scoreboard players set starter_period/grace_period/main_period time 120

Teams can also be enabled with:
scoreboard players set enable_teams global 1you can then add players to the red, blue and green teams.


Gather some players together and when you're ready, run function lavarising:start and the game will begin. The game status will now appear on the bossbar at the top of the screen. Once the main period beings, the world border will have shrunk to 80 blocks and the lava will begin rising from y0 to y245.

you're basically in the pre-game period, the datapack requires multiple people to be on the server so that you can run /function lavarising:start

you can run /team join admin to temporarily get out of adventure before the game begins.

gonna add an option that doesn't have all this in the future

you are able to lower the preparation time by lowering the starter period value in the internal scoreboard.

not checked the datapack in a while so can't tell you the specific values right now but that should do the trick.

the only thing is that the border will not sync with the changes, meaning if you make the values a lot lower the border will be too big when the rising begins.


if you can understand the code you can try modifying the worldborder if this would bother you - i just recommend telling people (or teleporting) to get in an 80 block radius of spawn to ensure it's all good.

I have a question, is there any way to make the "preparation" time lower? We were preparing for what felt like 40 minutes while the border closed in. Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the border. Everything was fine and I went to go hide from some mobs to cook food, and when I came out I was like "UH GUYS.. NOT TO ALARM YOU BUT THE BORDER IS CLOSING IN-" and everyone freaked out, it was so fun.

unfortunately i already have it on the max size vanilla minecraft will allow - so you'd require plugins to achieve the same effect
