You wake up to the sound of your alarm clock ringing as loud as it can go. You open your eyes, and push the covers to the floor. You decide to lay in bed for a while longer, but a your cell-phone's constant buzzing thinks otherwise. You sigh, get up, and walk towards your phone. Your apartment's cold, hardwood floors send chills down your spine.
Text message alerts keeps popping up on your phone, and you open one.
"Wazz up! How u doin? I hrd u goin 2 some intrvew. Jobs like dat r too borin. Call me when u have the chance. I have somethin else in mind."
The message was from your brother, Derek. He's been living in the city from quite some time, and he's always pressuring you to come see him. You usually try to ignore him, but you figure you can get some breakfast with him before your interview.
Moments later, your in an internet cafe. Derek sits across from you, chomping on an egg sandwich. You gulp down your coffee, and look up at him.
"So bro, I heard you goin' to some interview?" Derek asks as he finishes his meal.
"Yeah, it's at the police station in Northwood" you reply in between sips.
He looks up at you, and nearly spits his food right out of his mouth.
"The police? My little bro is goin' to be some deputy?" he asks as he wipes his mouth with a napkin.
"Yeah" you respond.
"Police officers don't make any cha-ching! Why not join me? I make loads of money" he offers.
"No thanks" you say, trying to ignore Derek's offers of becoming a drug dealer.
After a few minutes of debating, Derek leaves, followed by you. He drives home, and as you walk towards the police station, you think about what your brother said. Should you become a ruthless gang member, a well-mannered cop, or head towards a different career and be a civilian?
