For single player it doesn't matter much. But the development of plugins, mods and datapacks is just way further on Java. I'm a data pack creator and Bedrock just isn't even close to the tools a common data pack creator would use. Plugins/Mods are even at a worse state.
Also, the monetisation on Bedrock is just terrible. Sometimes you have to pay 10$ or whatever currency for something that would be free on Java. Also the permanently promoted servers are really annoying.
There are two massive advantages to bedrock though. It's cross platform with mobile and the render distance is split from chunk loading distance.
I can easily do 32 chunks on bedrock, while 12 is my max for Java (rendering distance)

Thats a great point, I recently tried java and just for fun started making texture packs. The capabikties to add datapcaks and texture packs to java are so simple and esay. In bedrock there are many 3rd party apps to go through to convert and place files into minecraft. I think Java definitly has bedrock in the stance of non vanila playablity.
Java all the way my dude
Java and Bedrock both have different version exclusive features so I don't really prefer one over the other.
Good point, I edited the poll to include an option if you enjoy them both. Thanks for the feedback
