Building Styles/Methods
I personally almost always build from the top down. I got into this bad habit after I started using MCEdit, because it would allow me to correct myself if I didn't make my building quite high enough for what I wanted to build (May whatever deities there be bless CodeWarrior). On my latest build, I decided to force myself to start from the ground and work my way up, and here is what I have thus far:

I can't see your image.
I usually build dwarven structures and ruins. I start in mountains, clear out a huge area and my go to material is mossy cobblestone.

personally i like to find areas where i can flatten out the landscape and then build up and down from there. I also really like to find places that are really easy to see like large mountains and build stuff from there
I always 100% of the time build underground and carve out the stone to make my rooms and castles i never build from nothing i always carve out my buildings
