Help?

So I want to try making an adventure map but I have no experience with commands/command blocks and I want to make a map styled around various "trials," like a maze, parkour, and puzzles. I am taking heavy inspiration from The Maze Runner series, with a "safe zone" at the center of the maze.
I want to include gates that open/close periodically, sections of the maze that only open with keys that are obtained through completing puzzles.
What I need is help with command blocks and also puzzle ideas. If you have any tips/tricks and puzzle ideas I would greatly appreciate them.
