That is actually noise instead of shading.....

From one skinner to another. I tihnk you should be more focused about your skin designs before you move onto shading.,
I agree with BluCooler try working on your skin designs first then move on to shading
shading is good, and so is just texturing. Use the spray paint tool, and use something like 5-15% transparency, and black is it's a lighter color, or a grey if it's a darker color. this adds a bit of texture, and can be sued for shading.
I like to use MCskin3D, Here u can use the shade tool that looks like a half moon, to shade. U can those between different scale, like 10%-100% darker colors. Or 10%-100% lighter coloring. Works good and is what i use. If u like a look on how it will look like, u can take a look on my side.
