So I'm currently working on a skin based on thieves guild armor from Skyrim. The problem is, I am not that great at shading. If anyone could give me some tips, I would really appreciate it!

Like the soup said, color palettes are the way to go!

I personally used a color palette for all my designs. I can try to explain how at least I shade (not saying its the right way) but it might help. The easiest way I found of doing it is take your main color and doing something like this

Main color: Brown

Light brown (for highlights)
Main brown
Darker brown
Even darker brown
Darkest brown

Once you have those colors setup, start at the corners with the darkest color and then work your way up to the main brown. Account for folds in clothing, overlaying fabrics, and other "stacked" layers will also need shading like that. Easy way to remember is Light = raised parts or closer parts and Dark = lower parts or further back.

Hope that helps, if you want, look at my skins for reference or find a skin that you really like and use that as reference as well.

^ The pro skinners never use dodge or burn. They make palettes: http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/tut ... -shifting/

The Dodge/Burn tool is your friend. Use it.

I would just like some dark shading on the body, arms, and legs, but I'm not sure how to.
