Notch was the head who sold the company to microsoft. I heard that he had some problems with the fame, he wanted to escape it. When he did other games and people got know about this(MC CREATOR HAS A NEW PROJECT, WOW), there was a hype which demotivated him to work. Correct me if I may mistake some facts
