People who have made texture packs must have had a save of the default minecraft textures. I would like to know where or how to get them for a texture pack I would like to make for 1.6.2.

Umm. Neither of those work for me. There is no file in my .minecraft called 'textures' except resource packs, and I even searched 'Skeleton' which brings up every file or folder in my .minecraft, even files inside folders inside folders, and nothing came up. (I was looking for the default skeleton texture.)
Not your .minecraft folder. It's inside your .jar file for Minecraft (e.g. 1.7.9.jar). There is an assets folder inside, of which you can then find "textures". This whole assets folder is the default texture pack, and you can extract them for use anytime. The skeleton texture should be in assets/minecraft/textures/entity.

Damn it! I rushed to get the first reply, but you stole it. I hate it when that happens...Anyways, as Floppy said, find your minecraft.jar/version#.jar/modded.jar, open it, and all the folders that you would see in a resource pack are in there, all with the Default textures loaded.
So if you wanna replace the Default textures in a .jar with a different resource pack's textures, you can simply just copy everything in like a mod.

Bro, they're all inside the minecraft.jar, all in folders like resource packs. For example, if you're looking for the "textures" folder, just look inside minecraft.jar, and you'll see a "textures" folder with all the Default textures.

1. Go to your .minecraft folder.
2. Go the the versions file.
3. If you are using mods, go to the file that you made to install your mods to. If you aren't using mods, go to the 1.6.2 file.
4. Now open the .jar file in there.
5. Open the folder named assets.
6. Open the folder in there called minecraft.
7. Now click textures.
8. Every single texture is in the folders you can see now.
