HELP me make a texture pack!

I've been thinking about making one for a while, and I decided procrastination must end now! I have no idea where to start, and when I search it on youtube I hate the commentary being so fast, and I like cold hard text. I have a mac, and don't really want to download much so in browser if possible I also have no idea what I'm going to do and I want screen doors (transparent).
So where do I start? What do I do? And any other tips?

I'm very new to this, so much that I have no idea what I'm possibly getting myself into.........

Paint.net! As good as any professional photo editing software and free.

go to paintdotnet.com/download

Digital art is what texture editing is all about. Look up stuff to do with digital art.

Start by choosing your definition (for first timers always do 16 or less) and then figuring out what your texturepack will look like, what it's based on and what the point of it is. There are so many functions in paint.net that you won't need to do anywhere near as much work as drawing them all by hand.

Try reading through this thread on the Minecraft Forums. It's a little outdated, but it goes over every aspect of texture making. Also, look up other, non-minecraft-related tutorials for help on shading and color choice and stuff like that.

I can tell you right now that if you are going to refuse to download anything, you're going to have a very bad time here on the internet. If you're scared of viruses, get a good antivirus program and some common sense. If you're worried about space, just know that all the stuff I have downloaded to help with texture pack creation has taken up less than 2 gigs total.

There are some tutorials out there. If you don't already have Photoshop, use the next best thing (in my opinion), GIMP 2.8. It is, in a way, a free photoshop. Not as much you can do, but just as much as you need for texture packs
