Here is a couple things to know. First: You don't need winRAR or 1-zip. Basic windows zip files work perfectly. Second: Try dragging and dropping your current minecraft.jar into an internet explorer window, and save it as a zip. Delete all the extra files, and you are good to go. Third: Don't mess with any names, or folder locations. Everything will be exactly where it needs to be. With gimp, you should be perfect for texture editing.
Thanks man! I think this will help!~

So do I just upload an image of each minecraft block to gimp and than I edit how they look and than I am done? I do not know if I need a special texturepack maker download and than upload that to gimp....
If someone knows the answer it would be much appreciated!

Also, you need time and dedication if you are ready to edit numerous blocks coming in all directions. I wish you good luck if you made it this far.

Nope, you only need to use 7zip or WinRAR if you want to share it. Minecraft also accepts folders with the files in them. Image editing programs are the most important.
I tried using WinRAR to upload a texture pack, but PMC did not support it. Try sending it to a zipped folder instead.
To make a texture pack, use that WinRAR to open your
Minecraft.jar. Then copy the file folders that have textures in them, and paste it into another folder. Use an image editing tool like Pant.net to edit the images. After you are done, Drag your
Texture pack into the .minecraft > texture packs folder.
If you use a Mac, I'm sorry. Try looking that up on the internet.
