Please help me.
I have tried to download and install a few resource packs lately but for some reason none of them show up when I drag then into the resource packs folder. Out of six that I have downloaded recently one two will show in my options. What am I doing wrong?

Are these well known resource packs? it may be that you have installed one or two texturepacks falsely advertised as updated 1.6 resource packs.
I'd suggest that you take the resource packs out of the folder resource packs than
force update your game. Once you've done that take the resource pack and drag it back in to the resource packs folder. Try going back to Minecraft and see if it worked.
Hope it works.

.zip works???? well i guess im wrong. but there often less problems if you unzip it.
.ZIP has always been the format for texture/resource packs. Distributing folders doesn't work so well on the internet, that's why Mojang chose .ZIPs, because they are a common format that can be easily created and downloaded.
If a pack is made correctly and you don't plan on modifying it yourself, unzipping a pack will not solve any problems and is pointless. And if you unzip a working pack incorrectly (which depends on your archive manager or how you unzip with it) you can break the pack.

.zip is wrong, needs to be a folder. Double click the . Zips and then relaunch minecraft
Nope. .zip IS the right format for resource packs. .ZIPs are intended for pack distribution, while pack folders are intended for use by artists so they can make changes and quickly reload textures with f3+t to see changes.
You don't need to restart Minecraft to use them either, stop spreading false information.
EDIT: not only that, double clicking doesn't usually unzip archives, it just opens them. Not only that, if a texture pack isn't working, unzipping it is not likely to fix it. It is possible if the pack is zipped incorrectly and the archive manager is of those that unzips the contents of an archive straight into the directory you're in-which is really annoying if it's got a bunch of files. However, if the issue was something else, it would break the pack further.
No, you aren't doing anything wrong. Compare the 2 packs that worked to the others that didn't. One common mistake that many people make is that they zip the pack wrong, zipping the folder they were working in instead of the CONTENTS of that folder. When you open the .ZIPs, you should not see a folder, but a pack.mcmeta, a pack.png, and an assets folder.
pack.mcmeta might be missing or incorrect, which would cause the pack to not be listed. Another common mistake is for names to be capitalized when they should not be, or misspellings.
To fix whatever is wrong, use the working packs you have to determine the issue in other packs, and solve it, be it moving files out of a folder, fixing a case error, no pack.mcmeta, ect.

yes i open the resource packs folder and drag the zip file in, its just refusing to work.
Are you sure that the resource pack is the folder and not in the folder that you are using?
