I want to add multiple variants to mobs with two textures like enderman and phantoms, but for some reason the overlays only use one texture and not the rest.
For example:
Phantoms have two textures; the base texture and the eyes overlay, which glow.
I want base texture of phantoms to come in 3 colors. Black, blue, and purple.
I also want the glowing eye colors to come in blue, yellow, and red.
The base textures work and all show up in game, but the eye textures only shows up as blue in game.
Both textures have a properties file with the right information. I can't figure out why the overlays are only using one texture.
Is there a way to fix this? Or is it just not possible to have multiple eye overlays?
I'm using Optifine for 1.16.1

Maybe the color of the overlays is hard coded? I'm not sure it's just my guess
Nope. I've tested it and I can change the color of the overlay, I just can't have it switch between variants.
