Resource pack help

I am combining some resource packs to add what I like from several and I wanted to add custom sounds to however i don't know how.
Before you ask:
YES:
the directories are right
they have been converted to ogg
they have been renamed correctly
I heard something about a sounds.json to anchor. No idea what that means.

you need to tell Minecraft where your custom sounds are with the sounds.son file.
