Texture Pack Question

Hey guys, I had a quick question I thought some of you might be able to answer. Say my friend wanted me to make 256x256 skin for him. Problem is, would he have to use a 256x256 texture pack for the skin to work, or would it crash his game? To summarize, would a 256x256 skin work with the default 16x16 texture? Thanks if you can answer this.

The texture pack resolution has nothing to do with the resolution of your skin. However, you'll need to have the HD Skins Mod to even have an HD skin the first place.
I think you have to have an Hd skin mod to be able to use HD skins, so there shouldn't be any dependency on what resolution texture pack he's using.
