AMD or Intel?
Well, I am not looking for fights, I am just wondering, would AMD or Intel be better for a $1789 (AUD) build? I'm buying one, and would like to try out Battlefiel 4, ETC

Could you post your build here? We could help you make it better if it is able to be better. However, to answer your question, currently Intel is better in the higher budget CPU range. An i5 is your best bet for gaming currently. However, for GPUs, especially with BF4, you'll want to get an AMD card. BF4 utilizes Mantle, which is an API that AMD's GPUs use. This, in addition to the fact that AMD cards have the same performance but cost less than a comparable nVidia card (performance-wise, of course) make them a sure buy in most, if not all builds.
This is what I have gotten so far, I change it up ALOT everyday, as I am contently researching products.
I didn't see your build on this thread. Do you think you could post it again? In the meantime, I took your budget and I tried to make a build off of it. I don't know your exact needs so this is a sort of blanket build, but it should do everything you need it to unless you render and edit videos for a living.

This build has a good mouse, keyboard, and monitor as well, so if you remove those you'll save some more. This build is basically your best bet for your budget, and it will run today's games (and tomorrow's) at 60+ FPS.
For that price a Haswell i5 for sure.
Intel is generally better, as it has more support and you are less likely to run into motherboard incompatibility issues.
If you spend more money, Intel is also considerably more reliable than AMD.
Cheap builds = AMD
'No limit' builds = Intel
For games like Battlefield 4, they rather more GPU taxing, and I will always recommend nVidia graphics cards because of the support and quality.
Make sure to get a decent GPU and CPU, otherwise you are wasting money.

For a $1600 (USD) build, I would definitively go for Intel, as AMD is for lower budget builds. For GPUs, AMD is the way to go. It's cheap and better compared to comparable nVidia cards, but if you have a small PSU, then you should go with nVidia, as their cards are more power efficient.
*EDIT*: After some research, I found out that BF4 is mostly optimized for AMD CPUs, so AMD CPU+GPU is your best bet BUT if you're into other games too, go for i5 4690.
