What CPU brand is better for minecraft? AMD or Intel? Does it matter? I'm investing in a GTX 980Ti, so does a CPU matter in Mineccraft? Of course, I'm going to grab a high end CPU, so if I choose AMD I would get a 9590, or if I chose Intel I'd either get the 4990k or the 5960X. Which one should I get? Will it affect my gameplay drastically?

A screenshot on a DUAL core Intel CPU clocked at 4.5ghz (Ignore the 3.2 in the f3 screen)

I'm sure if I had a better GPU in this machine then I'd be seeing much higher frame rates much more of the time. 1000fps is above average but average being about 750fps is more than enough for me (When testing the computer I went into a flat world and put all settings to low and was getting over 3000fps but I'm not counting that)
GPU is a HD 7850 in this machine by the way. Running in maximised window on a 1080p screen but not technically at 1080p because of the windows taskbar taking up some of the pixels making it only 1920x1027. May not sound that different but 1971840 pixels vs 2073600 can make slight differences in performance.

I meant to say 4970k. I ended up purchasing the 4790k, and I got the 980ti. If you want, I can link my pcpartpicker for what i got
I'm certain there is no such thing as a 4990k but a 4790k does exist and it performs very well but is not needed for Minecraft.
It's really a preference choice of Intel vs AMD, ignore the fanboys of either manufacturer. Intel has superior single core performance as has been proven many times but for gaming it is difficult to notice the difference, especially in games where the CPU is able to feed the GPU with enough data that even if it was any faster it wouldn't matter.
The thing with the 4xxx processors and the 5xxx processors is that they have a different socket so you will need a different motherboard.
4xxx is on the LGA1150 socket and 5xxx is on the LGA2011-v3 socket.
Don't bother with an FX-9590 for gaming, an FX-8350 is plenty. The FX-8350 is an 8 core processor just like the 9590 and the 9590 won't give noticeably better performance especially when the 8350 is overclocked.
The 9590 also uses more power than any Intel CPU so if power usage is a concern for you, especially if you are going to use a 980ti as well which consumes about 250w under load.
You may be drawn to an AMD CPU by their larger core count but 8 cores won't give ANY boost in performance compared to a quad core Intel CPU. Also my dual core Haswell Pentium G3258 clocked at 4.5ghz does better than my FX-8350 at 4.5ghz and that has 6 more cores.
Basically, although Minecraft does use the CPU, it doesn't need 4 Xeons to run it. It isn't really that CPU intensive, it uses about 35% of my CPU when it's running which I'm sure is higher than average, that's on the Pentium by the way.
Choose whichever CPU you want and make sure you get the correct motherboard for it and enjoy, there really isn't that much difference when you play games on an Intel vs AMD.
GPUs - Same goes for NVIDIA and AMD as CPUs in some cases but there are a lot of times where NVIDIA will outperform AMD in games that were designed with NVIDIA in mind and vice versa but again, it really is about personal preference and budget. If you can get the 980ti then go for it but for a LOT less you could get the 390x which performs *pretty much* the same.

this guys going ooooofffffffff on parts lol i run an r9 280 with i7 3770 i can run most games on ultra, really demanding games on high. minecraft runs no less than 100 fps which is more than enough most monitors cant even display that and your eyes probably wouldnt be able to even notice the difference
Go on amazon. It's my dad did
Yes, while using such high quality parts, I would go for intel. Minecraft uses the CPU a lot, so it would be best to get a monster CPU and a 980.
Of course, other games might rely heavily on the GPU, so really I would go for the 4990k and a 980ti.
You would dominate Minecraft!
+1 for expensive AF parts

minecraft doesnt "use the cpu a lot"....
The better GPU you have, the higher your FPS will be. That is if there is no bottleneck.
A 980 with an i5 will get more FPS than a 960 and an i7
