My computer has recently said that I am using 7 gigs of ram, but when I go and look at my program performances it only says I use about 1 gig. So some random stuff is making my RAM skyrocket and I would really like some help with that.

Google Chrome doesn't like my computer either. It freezes it often, requiring me to either wait for it to unfreeze, or restart my computer. It's not because of bad hardware -- maybe the hard drive is acting up (because it's 7 years old), but everything else is pretty overpowered compared to even modern computers.
That is because, while Chrome is the fastest most efficient web browser, is also the most space/ram/cpu requiring browser there is, and it can deliver a hard punch on bad computers. But the problem I have is that the sudden ram "spikes" are so random and strange that they do not make any sense.
Hello again. I just tried to restart my computer, and a peculiar thing happened: When I looked at task manager I saw that there was a lot more memory used (like 2 gigs) but looking at performance it said I only used 27% (which IS about 2 gigs). I am not sure why it told me differently before.

Yea, also check for any massive files.
i had a 118gb file from emails being downloaded. i dont even use my email app

use razer game booster--it will close the programs and processes down that are no needed
Scroll down through the list of processes and see if any are using too much ram. Otherwise, it may be a virus, or your Anti-virus running some kind of scan. Look for games that might not have closed, such as hl2.exe etc. Or what he said ^^

Full scan every 4 Sundays and the Sundays between run quick scans. Also scanning too much can also wear down your drives.
Like mine was not a virus, just the amount of data, but it can also be a virus I wont deny that.

It doesn't need to, its the amount of data you have on your HDD/SDD that is the problem, it needs to read/write over all your data to get each final calculation, the less data, the faster it runs. Does that make sense?
But if I have so much shit in the background, why doesn't it show up in the task manager then?
Lol I had the same problem non stop because I had so much crap installed, all that I verified were not a virus and I actually used, I just cleaned up my desktop and uninstalled about 50 of the most intensive programs that I barley used and its fine now, hope that helped
