Help with commentating?

So i find it that my videos are lacking good commentation. I've been doing commentating since 2011 and never really seemed to get better at it and whenever i do solo coms i find it sort of awkward talking to nothing but i feel like im talking to my audience at the same time, i also find it awkward trying to be funny or entertaining, don't get me wrong, i'm the "comedic one in the family" but whenever i try to be funny i dont ever know if my viewers find it funny. I'm more of the kind of person that focuses on the game but i dont want to be that kind of youtuber, i want to be the kind of youtuber that just makes videos that when my viewers come they feel like they are hanging out with me and not just watching me. I want my videos to be like if you are sitting on the bus and you hear my voice you would be like " HEY ARE YOU WATCHING [insert channel name]?" "YES I AM "

So i would appreciate any and all constructive criticism on my current commentating skills
