Macs can't get viruses. I've had mine for 2 years now, and have had a popup saying found a virus. I believed it downloaded a file. Opened it up and nothing happened.

Any platform/operating system can get viruses. People just don't create viruses for certain platforms either because; 1) Not enough users 2) Too easy to remove them.

And what you described is exactly what happens when you get a virus... You open a file and it does nothing on the screen, but in the background it does stuff.

Am I the only one who sees he contradicted himself by saying they don't get viruses but he got one, but his antivirus protected it?

I have a Mac. Mac is only good for school, editing, and coding.
Windows is the go to for gaming.

Compare windows 8 to mavericks, and try to find your favorite app that ISN'T On your desktop. Which one's faster to do so? Mac.

You press the windows button, then click the application... two clicks... Or sometimes 3, if it's not on your start menu, and have to go into your programs....

That's pretty simple, and fast.. ~3 seconds

Windows for everyday use. More programs than any of the other OS.

As for servers, Ubuntu.

An operating system should be judged on its ability to execute programs.
A windows computer and an OS X computer can both be used for the other's "purpose" provided the right program is installed.

I understand your point, but I'm sure that operating systems are independent of prescribed purpose.

I would side with Linux (Fedora FTW).
To give a rough summary:

Linux distros are open-source, so a larger amount of people can introduce new features as well as their own versions. They usually come with no default junk pre-installed (some offer it) so the operating system is not integrated with independent software, preventing issues caused by glitchy default programs.
They're all customizable. There isn't an element of Linux you cannot modify.
You completely own your computer.

Now, let's look at why I don't like Windows nor OSX:

Windows is locked up tight. There is no way to alter it without being bounced by DRM. In addition, it comes loaded with a HUGE amount of separate programs preloaded (Yes, even OEM).
Among them:
Windows Media Player
WordPad
Two calculators
Scanner drivers (what?)
Windows App Store (foreshadowing?)

And there's more. Much more.

There is always some background program running, doing something that you didn't tell it to do.
SmartScreen records every download and makes programs out to be viruses if their authors don't pay to "certify" with Microsoft.
And don't forget OneDrive integration. I don't even use OneDrive, but hey. It asks me anyway.

Windows is more than thirty gigabytes. Why could that be?

Onto OS X.
OS X. Where do I start? Could it be the fact that it's locked onto proprietary hardware? Or maybe the fact that it has more preloaded programs than Windows has? Those are all wonderful features, but these stand out:

OS X forces you to integrate with their programs. There is no way to change a default program, and any programs downloaded to replace them cannot be a part of that ecosystem.

It’s intrusive:
You have to have an “apple account” to use the OS you already purchased. In addition, it forces you to use the account if you are going to use most of the preloaded programs. You have to set up a "Time Capsule" to make a friggin' backup.
THE DRM IS REAL.

And the best part?
OS X uses no traditional standards. Executable files use a ".app" format which nothing else knows how to read. All its preloaded programs produce files with unique formats.
NOTHING ON OS X WORKS WITH ANYTHING BUT OS X.

But hey, those are the facts and this is my opinion.


EDIT: On Viruses
They should not be factored in. All a virus is is a program that carries out tasks with malicious intent. It's just like any other program to the OS.
You can't "get" viruses. It doesn't just happen. You have to download them.

Microsoft. I don't like Macs (Or Apple in General) and I've never used a Linux computer. (Although I've heard they're good!)

I play on mac so i have to vote for it.

I primarily use Win 8, I have a VM with Win 7, MacOSX Lion, Kali Linux and Crunchbang. If I would have to pick I would have to say Linux!

I use Windows for games, schoolwork, productivity, etc.

I use Linux distros (mainly Ubuntu) for servers and pretty much everything I use Windows for (minus DirectX games :/). FYI Android is Linux, so if you have an Android phone, you're a Linux user.

I don't use Mac OSX anymore (used to in school), but it was good for basically the same things as Windows (again minus DirectX games).

As far as OSes go, I like all three. I just don't like that I have to pay near double fair price to get a machine running Mac OSX.

Linux is absolutely an operating system, along with windows and the Mac Os.
I prefer windows simply because it is the only os i have been exposed to, however my opinion can easily be changed if i took the time to get used to them.

Linux is not a operating system.

I tried Linux but the drivers for wmy GPU and CPU AND Motherboard do not support it
