There is no reason in getting a 970 or 390 or anything less than that right now, as the 480 is about to release, any day now and will be 199 for 4GB and 229 for 8GB. The 480 should be faster than a 390/970 and maybe tie a 390x/980.

Here is what I'd go with, 833 with the prices of all the needed stuff, you can add what you want as in keyboard, etc. You have a oc'able cpu but locked motherboard, and a crappy watercooler, so I'd just go non-K. Cheap and good motherboard, cheap 16gb of ram, 512GB SSD storage, 1TB HDD storage, RX 480-8GB with link to the newegg purchase page.

If you ever want to play FPS games or really anything in first person down the line I would HIGHLY suggest getting the Death Adder mouse instead.

If you are going for heavy gaming I would get a better monitor, GHz is just bad.
I don't know where you come from, but 60 frames per second on a monitor is completely fine... "Heavy gaming" doesn't need 144 FPS or anything...
OP, if I were you I'd stick to what you have now and order it, and then close/lock the topic. This PC is perfectly fine for the budget And doesn't really need much more tweaking. (Although you may want to cut down on that keyboard... There is no need for a keyboard over 30/40 dollars, better invest it in a good headset ^^)

The monitor you choose is good. If you buy a 144hz montior but your gaming isn't getting 144 fps then you will not see a difference between 60hz and 144hz.

i had picked the headphones, mouse, and keyboard before i even picked the computer. also, i haven't had headphones in a while, and i now hate earbuds
Yeah! Wow! That's a nice build. The only issue for me would be the mouse. I'm not sure how many other people agree, but I hate wired mice.
The mouse doesn't affect the build at all, but for gaming, wired mice are better. It's good to get one with a detachable cord so you can replace it if something goes wrong, but wires are much faster than wireless. (And most gaming mice come with braided wires so it's hard to break)

Don't switch SSD's, anything cheaper and it'll be so poorly made it'll contradict the point of getting one. I got one the same size for 100$, yours is only 60$, no need to get cheaper
You can get a 250GB 850 EVO for $20 more than the OCZ. You can get a good quality 240GB SanDisk drive for $65. You can get a good 120GB drive for less than $45.

That SSD is extremely expensive. $70 can get you a good 256GB-class drive, like a SanDisk SSD Plus or Ultra II.
Also the RX 480 will launch at $200 in less than a week (and according to rumors, with enough supply to prevent shortages). It'll be better than a GTX 980 and use less power.

I heard that if you overclock it a bit then it will be faster then a 980.
What kind of other stuff are you doing? If its just gaming and other small tasks then you should be fine with just 8gb of ram and you can later add more ram if you need to.
Also I'd go with Radeon R9 290X instead of the GTX 970.

Definitely get an SSD. Your OS, (windows), browser, steam, and maybe 1-2 games should go on it. This DRASTICALLY decreases loading time and helps stuff run smooth.
You can get a 120GB SSD for pretty cheap, then a 500GB HD for around 40 bucks. Keep a few games you're currently playing on the SSD, once you finish with them move them to the hard drive and get more. That's what most people do

I forgot about steam and programs similar to steam. I would get a 120gb ssd but i would also keep the 1tb hard drive.

I suggest you get an SSD and a QHD monitor.
A QHD monitor is a pointless investment. I think that OP is going to use this pc for gaming purposes and if he used a QHD monitor that would result in fewer fps in games and make the game unplayable if he tries to play on ultra or anything similar. And, the ssd would be a good investment but I would only buy a 60gb ssd just for windows and maybe google chrome or whatever browser OP uses. I did not include an ssd because I did not think of that when fixing his build.

I suggest you get an SSD and a QHD monitor.
First of all switch the Nvidia graphics card to an AMD graphics card, much better performance to dollar ratio. If you need help picking one out just message me.

Upgrading to a 120/144hz monitor is unnecessary. It would be a waste of money because if you are not playing your game on 144 fps then you would not see a difference in the image. Also, a cheaper PSU would be a bad idea if it is from an unknown company. If you buy a cheap PSU from an unknown company then you are risking shorting out your whole computer and the unknown companies may use non-Japanese capacitors. I would recommend sticking to these companies for power supplies. Corsair, EVGA, NZXT, Cooler Master, Thermaltake, PC Power & Cooling, and maybe Silverstone. I have never had experiences with Silverstone but I had experiences with all of the other ones. All the other ones lasted me maybe 10 years before I decided to upgrade to a more wattage hardware. The power supplies did not die. But, yes he may need a higher wattage power supply maybe 600 watts and above.
There's no point in a 120Hz monitor, and he needs a more powerful PSU, not a cheaper one.
You might want to upgrade your PSU... Only 430 watt is not enough... It may be just enough, however I do highly suggest you to upgrade to ATLEAST 500 watt and preferably 600 watt...

I've been using the IGPU of my I5-6600 for gaming, and been getting decent FPS (~100 fps in Minecraft). If I would want to play something like GTA 5 I'd have to get a graphics card but otherwise you could also just scrap the 970 out of the build if you want to go cheaper
