Hey guys! I was just wondering if any of you are getting or operating on Windows 8. Which one is better for gaming? I've been seeing all the commercials on TV and I've been wondering if it's worth my RAM and money.

Obviously, 99% of people who said anything in this thread never used Windows 8 at all, Windows 8 is a lot better, I even get better FPS, so,RM_, listen to people that actually use it...

Windows 8 is cheap, 40$ if you have a previous version, it is MUCH faster than 7, overall it is better, it just has a steep learning curve. If you want something that is worth the money go with Windows 8, I have been using it for a few months now

Windows 8 is better for buisness, I have used it, reviewed its pros and cons, and IMO Windows 7 is the best for gaming.
If you allready have windows 7, DO NOT BUY WINDOWS 8

W8 is really only made for office use i think.
I think it was made so that software for tablets and software for PC will be virtually the same thing, so developers won't have to make multiple versions for the same OS.
That's the problem. A computer isn't a tablet, a phone, or an xbox. It's a PC. It ruins the individuality that the PC had, and it's incredibly disappointing.
And no start button? I use the cmd prompt too much to ever get used to that. How am I supposed to Decompile my code?

2 things, the start is NOT gone, its just a new gui, try exploring the new features instead of going straight to the desktop, it really isn't all that different.
You can also download free software to add the original start button back, if it is really that big of an issue.

Dunno what happened to my reply, but I'll say it again. A PC and a computer are two different things and it should stay that way. And there is NO start button. There is a desktop, and it has no start button, which makes it really hard for me to access the cmd prompt, which means I can no longer decompile/recompile codes.
The new GUI IS the start button, try exploring some time, like I said, It is more similar than you think.

I disagree with most of the people here, windows 8 DOES game very well, I have yet to find a single problem with gaming. So far, TF2 works, Chivalry works, BF3 works, medal of honor works, minecraft, and every software I have downloaded (even ones only advertised for windows 7) except avast antivirus. Most of the people here don't know what they are talking about, and probably just need to update their drivers if they "can't run anything on it."
Not to mention 90% of the people that complain about it have not even tried windows 8. Windows 8 does NOT remove the start button, it just has a new GUI, and if you don't like it, then download free software to get it back.
For the people saying that it cost more, I got my windows 8 for $30 less than the equivalent on windows 7, and if you already have windows 7, you can upgrade for $15(if you recently purchased windows 7)
You can also get ALL the apps for the windows tablet in the store, so if you like tablet games, you can play them on your PC.
Even if it is buggy(which I don't agree with) it will become the standard OS for developers in a short period of time.

I really don't like the layout of win8 but the fact that Minecraft doesn't run on it is the real killer. Go with Windows 7!

Windows 8 suck, if you are not a pro computing its really hard to understand the Windows 8

I don't mean to sound like a blunt little troll, but everything that Microsoft does is crap. Let's face it. Anything that the company makes has a better counterpart. The problem is, it's the most widely used, and is considered the standard, so that's why I use Win 7.
If Linux could offer everything that Windows currently does, I would switch in a heartbeat.
(And saying that everything they make is crap is a bit of a joke... I don't really think to that degree, but I still dislike Microsoft.)

Windows 8 wont run really any games. Its purely for work from the looks of it.
Windows 8 is nice format, and good for work and all, but it is definitely NOT for gaming, and you need a powerful computer or it will make it 2 seconds slower.
Again, installed it on my sisters laptop and it hasnt effected performance during gaming and starts-up in like 3 seconds. Better than Vista she had.

With Windows, I think it's generally a good idea to wait a while before considering getting their latest OS. After a few months the weekness of the new OS will be more widely known, and you can decide whether it's worth it or not to upgrade. Personally, I have never used Windows 8 but have heard from people that it's much less suited to actual PCs than to tablets, and that it's awkward to use on PCs. I'll probably be sticking with 7 for now.

Deffinately go with the Win7, and then make your computer 2 seconds slower, than if you had Win8. Its not worth the money. ;-D

Windows 7 is the BEST ever, but linux can run only jar games and windows 8 SUCKS, so 7 is the best.
Have you ever even TRIED windows 8? It is far superior to win7 IMO. Windows 8 can run anything win 7 can run, and more. The Aero for the desktop also has a MUCH cleaner look, rid of all the annoying reflections and gradients. It also has unique multitasking software built in.

If minecraft doesnt work downgrade your graphics card, Worked on my little sisters laptop with Window 8.
