kjellyo1Windows 7 is best. I have 2 computers (guess what , a win7 and a win8!) My win7 crashed (I raged at it xD) and had to use the windows 8 one. After just 30 minutes, I raged on it again because everytime I wanted to walk forward in minecraft, the start screen popped up. Here's a list of the downsides of win8.

Slow.
Too sensitive.
Impossible to find %appdata%, as you can't use Run, or have a start button.
Can't handle anything.
Out of memory on minecraft each 15 minutes!
Imagine you playing in full screen, you sniping on someone in black ops 2, and the start screen pops up and you die.

Memory problem: add more ram to minecraft

Appdata: swipe to right side of screen and click search. Type %appdata%. Easy

Start = no appear during fullscreen

Windows 8 is much more difficult to grasp than the traditional Windows 7. It took me a while to figure everything out but once I mastered it it worked great. Pay no mind to the bad reviews people may have on Windows 8.

Windows 8 is cool,
Windows 8 is good at recording games, Especially if you use DxTory,
Windows 8 is for gaming to, But there is downsides too.
Windows 8 is futuristic, Don't get stuck at Win7 forever.
All games are compatible with Windows8
(Games that i played with Windows8
Minecraft
Don't Starve
Assasin's Creed 3
Need for speed Most Wanted 2013
Nba 2k13
League Of Legends and many more)

And Windows 8 is easy to use at a P.C/Laptop!
I am using it now and it works fine!
I can record flawless to. http://www.youtube.com/user/ZxDoesGames

If i gonna rate it? it's 8/10

I love the new youtube. And why I am afraid to change to win8? Well because it is laggy, runs out of memory etc. If I'd had to, I could have used a win8 computer, but it is just too hard to use it.

The properties of a company include the software systems they support.

Support is not an operating systems feature.. no cigar there but nice try.

Right, so I have windows vista running on an old knackered desktop, and a friend of mine has windows 8 running on a top end gaming laptop, which works perfectly, except for the fact it's windows 8, it literally crashes upon a right click, the folder system seems broken, it took me 30 minutes to install a minecraft mod which would take my old vista 15 seconds.

My advice is get windows 7, 8 may look nicer, buts it broken, quite bad, I mean vista runs better than windows 8

Doesn't that mainly depend on the hardware?

And to the people who have only 1 of the 2 Windows: No one asked you, If you don't have one of them, or can't afford it then Stay Away

I use Windows 8 Pro (and 7), it is just harder to use and learn.

There still is a normal desktop on a Win 8 OS, they just don't advertise is as much as the LiveTiles. Still have to go with Win 7 though, after my friend said 8 was 'like Vista'.

Firstly, I Have both Windows 7 and Windows 8 at the moment.

Windows 7 is the one which I recommend, simply because its easier to use and is just better.
I like to use 7 to play games and do other stuff (making maps for games, 3d modelling etc) and I dont like windows 8 because First, it doesn't look as awesome as 7, (aero glass vs metro ui?)

Windows 7 right now has much more solved help questions or troubleshooting questions on forums though out the internet.

Go for 7.

Both are the same at its core. It is the general UI change that has driven away most old-time Windows users as the Start menu was replaced by Metro, which, in my opinion does indeed work better on touch-enabled devices. New users however, wouldn't feel that the new UI is a hassle, as well, it's their first experience with a mostly user-friendly UI. It's harder to change what is already established as general workspace for most users.

Initial reviews are also based upon the fact that newer drivers were needed for older machines or hardware. This was how the "Minecraft does not work on Win8" fiasco happened, it wasn't the operating system, it was the lack of compatible drivers.

In any case, both are viable choices, and if you are used to the old Windows style, go for Windows 7, and if you're feeling a little adventurous and that you have a touch-enabled device, go for Windows 8. I've noticed that booting up a Windows 8 takes significantly less time than Windows 7.

Please also note that the operating system has nothing to do with how your games will run, that is dependent on the hardware specifications,

faster and easier to use than Win 7.

Why is this?

Because it's made for people who don't understand computers or who expect everything to be simple. Windows 8 is great for those people, but for anyone else, it's just a load of crap.

Windows 8 is designed to be simpler for people who want to use it for basic tasks like checking facebook etc. kind of like a Mac.

The UI is also based on tablet interface for touchscreen computers.

That doesn't appeal to me personally, but it should work for whatever you want.

All in all Win 7 is better for a gaming rig.

PS: i use Windows XP (service pack 3) LOL

Hooray, someone mentioned Linux! I prefer Windows 7, since I haven't switched over yet, but getting 8 wouldn't be a bad idea, since it's going to be supported a bit longer. If you don't like the UI, I hear that the Windows Blue update should fix some of the issues. Also, if you don't like it even then, try dual-booting Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Those are pretty user-friendly, especially on newer hardware. Personally, when I get a laptop for college this summer, I'm going to get a Windows 8 one and attempt to install Arch Linux on a second partition.

Doing anything on your new PC with Linux is definitely worth a shot, considering it's totally free (except Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but that won't be of much use to you anyway).

Windows 8 is pushing towards a closed, Appstore-like system. That's not the only reason it's loathed, but it's certainly one.

Look at the politics behind the OS, for a bit.
