Windows 8.1 Vs Windows 7
Now with it's start button and a few more extra features; what do you prefer for gaming?
Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Professional? I'm looking for your thoughts and overall opinion on both.
Here's my view,
Windows 7 won't be supported much longer. Windows 8.1 is the way to go. It also feels so much quicker on boot since it starts up while doing background processes, compared to Windows 7. Overall it's faster and smoother. Use ClassicShell, Start8, or any other software to make it look like Windows 7 if needed. In Windows 8.1, you can default that Windows boots up to the dekstop also.
I'd recommend Windows 8.1 over 7 anyday.
Also Windows 7 will be supported for another 6 years (2020), and Windows Vista will be supported for another 3 years(2017).

I Haven't used Windows 8.1 (- trying it out in the store) I have been using Windows 7 since it was new. But I do Plan on Switching to Windows 8.1 After I build My Own PC.
Windows 7, Long live Nanami Madobe
I love Windows 7, I got windows 8 when it first came out. It worked for a little while. Then 8.1 and stuff came out. Since then I've had nothing, but problems. WINDOWS 7!
Been on Windows 8 for almost a year now. It was a big change coming from Vista and it wasn't familiar, but I've had no problems with it now that I've learned to navigate it.
Outcome seems to be Pro Win. 8
Thanks for all your replies it's good to shed some light on this topic!

KillertoadoldmanNickersonminecraft was meant more for windows 7 and down.
What? Who said that? Are they 6? Minecraft was build in Java, and Java is on every OS, and Java updates for every new OS, and Java for Windows 8 is faster, which makes Minecraft faster...
@OP, I prefer Windows 8.1, because it's smoother, faster, and I like how it looks. It runs games faster too. Like in BF4, Windows 8 got a 5-25% performance increase. (depending on hardware too)
no I am not six... And that is really not what I meant. I took a look at some of those windows 8 vs windows 7 articles and its what all people said, minecraft runs better on 7. I do not believe them (not to mention that I said that I was for win. 8). And yes I know mc was built for java
After using both, I can definitively say that I like 8.1 better. It's smoother, faster, and looks nicer. Plus, mainstream support for Windows 7 drops January 13, 2015, with extended support through 2020.
Honestly, I don't want this thread to become a flame war. But for me, i'd have to go w/ Win7. Yes, I HAVE used Win8. I thought it may have a better gaming experience but sadly, one of my favourite games (it's an old MMORPG) wasn't compatible.Yes I know a lot of games that aren't compatible with Win8 because it's fairly new, but honestly, I thought by now they would be. The interface of Win8 was nicely done but, they have much more to do. So I upgraded (Yes, UPGRADED) To win7 and now more of my games run smoother, and there are less bugs. Yes, I know Win8 is slightly new and all but from my experience so far, I'm sticking with 7
Windows 8has my vote
I went from windows xp to windows 8 so I don't know much about windows 7, my friends have windows 7 and I like windows 8 more from my point of view
I bought Windows 8.1 to dual-boot my MacBook. Based on other peoples' Windows 7 computers, I like 8.1 a LOT better. Really smooth and clean interface, fast startup, and awesome for gaming.
Windows 8.1
Windows 7
I have been using Windows 7 for my whole life, I have no idea how to use Windows 8+.
Same way as you had no idea how to use Windows 7 when you first sat into a computer, computer experience would help you and there's no catch to 8.1
Definitely windows 8.1! There are way more useful features and just use classic shell, thats what I do.

I personally haven't upgraded to 8.1 even though I can do so for free, but I love Windows 8

But seriously though, Windows 8 has faster boot time, a sleeker interface, and most importantly, less lag. Kind of like the comparison from Mario Kart 7 & 8. 8 looks better.

Im staying with 7. I am aware of the ups and downs of both and i prefer the interface of 7... I wish XP was optimised or remaked that would be nice
I have a windows 8 toshiba I think its better than windows 7, although some people say that minecraft was meant more for windows 7 and down. Personally I think windows 8 is better, start button is cool and stuff but also it is easier to access files from your computer.
Sticking with 7 for as long as I can ;p
I think you should look to the positives of 8.1 though, better off sooner than later because you're going to have to do it eventually anyways!
Yer but by that time there will be a good version of windows 8 not one that feels like your on a cheap tablet
