Are custom maps dated?

I was trying to find Minecraft YouTubers that play custom maps and I didn’t find anyone besides CaptainSparklez. Why is that? Are custom maps dated? Don’t they get views or something? Do you know any Minecraft YouTuber that plays custom maps?

At a guess, most Utubers are aiming for maximal views and a map would likely appeal to only a subset of the player base. [Parkour maps may be an exception as they seem to have a strong base of their own.]

Where is the fun in watching someone play a strictly plot-driven map, when you're better off playing it yourself instead?

Good point, but in a world where professional bowling is/was a televised sport [not much for the boob tube], it wouldn't surprise me to see a fandom for this….
I think that depends on the application of the custom maps, and the content creators. A lot of civilization youtubers seem to use custom maps for the most part. Then you have other youtubers that play with mods or make challenge videos, like Forge Labs for example. His Flood Infection video is taking place on a custom frozen wasteland map.
