Comment section suggestions

Hello,
So I saw a blog by MissSinful that had quite a good idea and made me think of a couple more ideas.

The first is a comment section on member's profiles as many sites have.
Another is status updates on profiles, so you can inform subscribers of a new project your working on, if you are having a meetup or just how you are doing along with many other possibilities.
The final idea I have is comment reporting so if someone sees a comment breaking the rules they can report that person, this can be the same for comment section on profiles so it would be more friendly and faster to catch rude, or inappropriate comments eft by other members

What do you think of these idea? Do you like them? Not so much? Whatever your opinions on it let me know in this thread.
Please reframe from flame wars.

the negative parts can always be worked out. If I take a punch to the face, my nose will heal eventually. However I prefer to not be punched in the face. To put it bluntly

Sounds like a good idea.

FantasymasterI'm not going through each separate issue like mr illdeletethis above me (who I agree with on every part), but a lot of these suggestions would create a lot more tension between people and a lot more options for hating. Especially the comments on profiles. It would encourage people to leave comments of unwanted sort on people's profiles, and everyone would be able to see them. There is a reason Private messages exist: If you want to tell someone something, thats the way to do it.

In general I think Planetminecraft should not attempt to be like facebook or most other social media. It should be more in the direction of DeviantArt in setup (though there are definite factors I'd appreciate they leave out, such as ugly logos and drastically changing things randomly).
This is because the purpose of Planetminecraft, in my eyes, is to display our creativity to those that can appreciate it, and meet others of similar or greater talent, learn from them, and possibly work together with them.

The purpose of PMC is not, and should never be, to build up an online social network of the "facebook type" (collecting 'friends' like many people on here collect diamonds). I feel that would seriously degrade the value and spirit of PMC.

Your suggestions are obvious in origin, of course. For people used to systems like that it would feel natural. And I think the banner and staff warning messages would be valuable additions. However, the remaining options would add little more than slight convenience for people used to that systems.

So thanks for the ideas, but I really hope only the 2 helpful ones are ever implemented.

Deviantart actually has a comment section for profiles, and being able to report inappropriate comments that break the rules would help with the negative side of the comments, also private messaging is actually easier or people to insult and bully someone on this site than the comments where you could report them, you can report someone's private message but only through taking a screenshot and sending a message to a Mod which is a lot longer and not a lot of people know how to take a screenshot.

And Planetminecraft being more social and interactive is not a downside, it's a plus, this website is also to have fun and not just to meet others with great talent. And I'm not saying be a copy of Facebook, Planetminecraft is unique and I'm not saying to change that, but adding things to the site for more interaction isn't taking that unique community aways, it will just make things more social for members because not everyone uses the forums and chat.

The thing is, PMC isnt ready for profile comments. I'm foreseeing lots of hate and trolling, leading to tons more work with mods. Yes, reporting comments seems like a good idea, I might have missed that in the original (or I posted shortly after you updated), but the rest seem so unneccesary. But hey, in the end its Paril who decides, not me.

Thank you for your opinion it's very appreciated however, just like those are your opinions, my blog about the recommendations are just mine. Honestly I believe you're focusing on the negative parts of this more than the good. There will always be negative aspects about something, but focusing on the good is a lot better. This is because the negative parts can be worked out. Again, thank you for your comments (:

I think these are some really great ideas. A comment section for people's profiles would definitely encourage interaction in the community, especially with people who aren't active in the forums and chat room. Status updates would also be a fun feature.

As for comment reporting, this would be perfect. Last I checked, the only way you can call attention to an inappropriate comment is by directly private messaging a moderator. I have to admit that inappropriate comments aren't that common, but when they do happen, being able to flag them would save a great amount of time and effort on the part of the users and moderators.

They kind of already have something like this, with the twitter feed connection.. At the very least, you could use that as your profile comment section.

Yes, but not everyone has a twitter, and people also can't interact or leave feedback for that member on there profile, instead they would have to go to twitter--create a account if they don't have one--and then leave a comment, but even then some parents don't want there children to have a twitter.

this idea has been tossed around loads, it would have to be heavily monitored and/or restricted due to certain people

Well if members were able to report comments if they broke the rules then that would help with managing the profile comment section.

If this idea is ever to be implemented, then people who are on your ignore list shouldn't be able to comment on your account.

obviously
going through your suggestions, i"d like to comment on each:
1: diamond for downloads against
with a build you may want to check it out before deciding if you like it so much you want to diamond it or not, same with skin and pack. i do think downloads should give points, but diamonds should stay a separate matter. a notification "you dowloaded this a week ago, diamond?" may be a good idea though
2: comment sections on profiles against
you can already comment on each submission, send messages and talk on forum posts, i"d prefer the profile page to stay the one place where you just present yourself
3: blog length rule unsure
lenth doesn"t necessarily mean quality, if you have something great to say that has more impact in a concise way a limit would hinder that, and requiring more words won"t make superfluous posts more interesting. as a general rule longer posts do require more effort, but not necessarily. what i would be for though is setting a significantly higher limit for what a "popular blog" displayed on top of the front page is, 3 or 4 diamonds clearly isn"t that, 20 may be a good limit
4: warning messages from staff for
agreed, asking before blocking would be a great thing, as minor violations often are an honest mistake the poster is happy to fix as soon as it"s pointed out
5: thumbs up/down for comments unsure
while it makes it easier to see how many agree and disagree it probably would lead to less comments, and a larger number of comments agreeing with the generally accepted opinions because it is encouraged already
_1: banner on profile picture for
something to personalize your profile page would be great, makes it easier to present yourself the way you like to be seen. additionally it would be great to be able to use a different "background material" than the grey "stone" texture the rest of the site uses
