My laptop roars sometimes, only because I'm an idiot and I put it on my lap.

Life makes so much sense. Putting a laptop on your lap = bad. Putting a laptop where a desktop would normally go = good.

The tons of gaming equipped laptops beg to differ.

To OP, try getting a cooling pad. (I think that's what they're called) You basically put your laptop on top of the pad and it helps cool down your computer.

Is it actually overheating? Is it a desktop? Or are the fans just ROARING? If it is just the fans thing I know a program for Windows 7 that lets you control their speeds. I use it. Its free and simple. It also shows(on some motherboards and CPU's) their temperature. Srry if this dosent help. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
