I spend my 17th birthday in Iraq during Desert Storm as a 19 Kilo. (Tanker M1A1 Abrams) After my deployment I was selected to train as an Airborne Ranger. After jump school and survival basic I was assigned to a co-op five man fire team. Co-op means there are other Armed Forces in the group. We ran breach and recovery in Bosnia, Kosovo and many places over in the Middle East. While on duty in Mexico, (We were running with the DEA and Mexican military capturing drug smugglers and money launderers) I was shot in the side with a 50 caliber that was mounted on the back of an old Ford. The shot damn near severed my spine. I spent 2 years learning how to walk again. I retired from the Army in 02. After I got out I moved to California and went to school for graphic design and dynamic programming. I got a job with Blizzard in 06 after earning my masters in graphic design. I make roughly 180k per year designing games that many of these kids, (And myself) enjoy. After 9 deployments and countless combat situations I can say with upmost confidence that I know the type of, “Solder” you are aspiring to be. I have known many flight jocks in my day, and while you do have the bring it on attitude necessary to run a fighter…. You do NOT display the cool under fire, calculating or sound judgment required to be effective in ANY combat situation. You are a loose cannon. Fragg bait as we call them. The kind of guy that no one on the team wanted to partner with because you would likely get us all killed. You thow condescending remarks about kids who quite frankly don’t deserve to be exposed to you or the attitude you display. Good luck in training. Your instructors have their hands full with someone like you. And pray God you don’t get someone killed!

Great advise Safety. I had the honor to serve with some of your Canadian brothers and enjoyed their company greatly! A good bunch of guys but Ill be damned if I ever play spades with them or any other Canadian again! lol They took me to the bank man! I had considered joining law enforcement after my retirement from the Army. The wife refused to let me lol. To dangerous she said! lol Well, she was right. Keep safe out there! Brandman, Yes you start out in the low to mid 30k range, but the pay scale ramps up pretty quick once you get to project lead status. And thank you for, it was an honor to serve! Black, From what I remember it did hurt when it happened. I was only conscious a few seconds after the impact. I woke up a week and a half later in Fort Hood laying in a bed with tubes sticking out of all parts of my body. I remember THAT pain for sure lol. As much pain as I endured, I would gladly do it all over again. Not so sure about my wife though. She still has nightmares about the whole thing.
Trust me, in my line of work, we are faced with the risk on getting shot at everyday. You can think that because you know about guns or because you think you know about tactics, some punk with a gun is not going to be able to beat you. Lesson for all of you, even in a job as a Police Officer, your still under the constant threat of getting killed well you walk up to someones car or well you lay out a spike strip. Hell, you could get run over by a car simply because your trying to block a lane closed by an accident.
Don't go into the Army or any other job that involves dealing with the idea of not coming home at the end of the day if you are some hot head who thinks he can handle a situation he has never even been in before.

Thank you for serving for our country sir. I really feel bad for you that you got shot. I've shot a 50 caliber once and I realize that would not feel great. People like you make me smile and realize that our country has many heroes. Once again, thank you.
