Fire charges
I've just been wondering, has anyone really been using fire charges? I see it to be much easier just getting some flint and steel if I ever need a fire.

I've even known people to create hidden dispensers with fire charges under a block of netherrack to hide secret passages behind fireplaces.

Think: redstone-activated fireplaces that light themselves when you enter a room, and can be snuffed out at a push of a button.

I've thought of it, but never bothered to try it.
one time i made a fire place that shot fire charges, and poured water on the fire when you flicked switches

Yes that is an advantage... having it shoot a distance. You can even have dispensers point up and down vertically so that could be a huge...
But just because the flint and steel lights whatever is in front of it doesn't mean that you are standing in front of it as well. The dispenser could easily be set up to light up anything you like. I have used it to set up complex fireplaces and cook livestock.
Ah, now I see, I guess their both useful if you use them right.

EDIT: I just realized, you can make a fireplace start with a Fire Charge. Set it up near the ceiling of your building, and if you can get it to hit right on, you've got a nice and cool fire place. But this is unethical, I just wanted to say you could though. Haha.

Can you shoot flint and steel from a dispenser?
As of 1.5 a Dispenser with flint and steel in it will light whatever is in front of it. I don't see how using fire charges is easier or more convenient than using flint and steel. It uses less valuable resources and can be used over and over many times...
