If you are getting DDOSed, quickly block and un-forward ports so your computer does not slow down. If you don't mind that your IP will change, turn off your modem (not router, there is a difference), wait 24 hours, and turn it on again. Before you do this, be sure to remove and block the person that is DDOSing you from your contacts.
Also, if someone is threatening to DDOS you, there is a good chance that they are bluffing. A good DDOS requires access of many different servers, and most free DDOS services (not going to name any for obvious reasons) are somewhat unreliable and not very powerful.

macgarthurHowever I doubt you will get DDOS'd, maybe DOS'd but even then if you have a decent router it will catch/block the attacks.
yeah if a single person is doing the ddos
but most routers will die under the load of an actual ddos attack
if you are a private person without mutch computer knowlege there is nothing that you can to to prevent and fight a ddos attack
using a vps is not a solution against ddos attacks
if your dedicated server(runnong on an actual serverplant and not your home pc) is attacked go and talk with the server provider(server provider not internet provider!)
btw a ddos doas not require an open port because it shuts down the router first
If someone is smart they can use 1 out of the variety of ways to grab your IP and boot it offline. Open ports dont help ddos. DDoS is done to 80 for you in-general, 25565 or other ports for minecraft server, so on and so forth.
Well someone can get your IP address doing netstat in Skype, it's actually pretty easy. However I doubt you will get DDOS'd, maybe DOS'd but even then if you have a decent router it will catch/block the attacks.
I have a belkin
If someone has you added on Skype, they use the Skype Resolver, like Dystymic said, and get your IP. They then can use this IP of yours to DDoS, which is what is happening to you. Like dysthymic said, you can use a VPN but some cost, some are free. VPN's will probably slow down your internet a bunch though. So any friend of yours on skype can get your IP.
Yep. There is an API out that leaks the last IP session used for your account. It's famously called the Skype Resolver. Only way to avoid this is to use a secure VPN when using Skype. There is a fix for this, but it is a fairly difficult process.

No, Skype runs through a Secure Server. and you would need a port open to receive the attack.
Well i have an open port of 25565 for my server....
