How do forums work

if i make one do you have the option to open it or does it automatically show you what i'm saying
is it just like a post basically

Not sure what the question is…
Fora are groups of threads (which generally share a theme ie General Discussion); each thread is a collection of posts (some of which reply directly to the original post, some of which may reply to other, previous, replies).
One needs to oope a forum to see the threads list and the open a specific thread to be able to read the replies.
This is in contrast to chat whcih is more nearly a stream of group conciousness that is readable by anyone opening the chat feature…
