Many a people have wasted time searching for free premium TLDs like .com and .net
Sadly most offers of a free .com etc. are scams, however there are exceptions such as .tk which is a free domain and .co.cc which although isnt a TLD, it looks kinda neat. If you really want to go the extra mile and get a .com it does make your activities look better

I believe a Joomla based website can be free, for a limited amount. Not being a a web-developer, however, I can't say much more. programs are available for free in many directions. free hosting space might be as well. otherwise, invest, then get some ads for a price that compensates the hosting cost, and you've got something that is practically free.
