So, I watched the movie san andreas and I absolutely love it. 5 stars! But, it kind of made me worry a bit so, I did some research. I thought to myself, "nothing like that will happen xD" but after studying it a bit I realized that there is a massive possibility of a mega quake measuring 9.2 on the richter scale. The san juan de fuga plate is currently sliding under the north american plate. And I have realized the faults in the area are ready to "blow" (not litteraly). As said in the movie, "It is not a matter of if but, a matter of when" This statement is now true. There are videos on youtube of proof. There are seismologists studying it currently. The quake will be so insanely massive, It will knock a 700 ft. tsunami wave (of water for those who don't know) onto the pacific coast. The wave will strech out and wash over japan. The wave will gradually loose weight on its journey but only 100 ft. will be lost. 700 - 100 = 600 (not that hard). These states will be affected: Washington, Oregon, California. I do not know about Arizona. I am hoping the quake won't devasate Arizona as it is where I live. But don't worry everyone. You have a chance. Get out now while you still can. This is no joke. We are currently 60 years overdue (estimate) while the last quake rattled california badly. Luckily, back then in the 17 hundreds; There was not a lot of population. This is a warning to all.

I do want to tell everyone this, The san andreas fault is 1) not the "creator" of this massive quake. 2) The san andreas fault will not open like it does in the movie. If it did there would be no friction between the plates, therefore no earthquake.
It is the plates that are the cause of the quake its an entirely new fault line. San andreas will not happen but something else will.

I agree, I saw the movie too, something devastating could happen, I live in Kansas, no where near an ocean, or a tectonic plate. But if the San Andreas fault would "blow" much, MUCH more than California, or even the west coast, would be in trouble.
Much of the buildings in the midwest, and the east are not built to withstand earthquakes, now that I think about it, if the San Andreas fault were to go, this could be a massive devastation to the United States, and not only would it affect it here, it would affect the whole entire world.
It would be a series of chain reactions, first most of the buildings around the united states would be severely damaged, and possibly grounded. Our crops, and natural resources would stop for a long time, and a lot of the world depends on the United States natural resources.
If the San Andreas fault were to "blow" you're right, this is something we all need to think about, and possibly make plans for.

-1 to 1.9 = Not Felt
2 to 4.9 = Minor
5 to 5.9 = Small
6 to 6.9= Moderate
7 to 7.9 = Strong
8 to 8.9 = Great
9 and up = Extreme/Massive
The earthquake is estimated to be a 9.2 that is in the Extreme/Massive category.
