Again, I have no idea where this should go, but my Minecraft client is being kept at 1.3.2 because I have a couple mods that were updated for Minecraft 1.3.2, although now I can't go on servers because they're all going to 1.4.2. Should I update, or will it render my mods incompatible?

Make a backup of your bin folder, and update. If you don't like the update, then just replace your new bin with the backup.
I actually already made a back up unmodded minecraft.jar to place, so thanks for posting this, since it put that back in my mind!
Scratch that, when I tried to run the copy, minecraft wouldn't work.
