Tips for Drawing?

these arent the most valid or professional tips but since ur just starting/restarting u should work on simpler arts first (stuff that dont take hours to draw, js so u get the hang of the tools, lineart, colors, etc).
depending on the app, u can use layers to make a sketch, then add another layer for the clean lineart, which i found really helpful and smth you cant directly do on paper
there are also some rlly helpful videoes on anatomy, perspective, shading, etc. on yt :D
i also think watching speedpaints help👍

I use gimp because it's free and has a lot of useful tools and abilities and a suspiciously cheap tablet that just acts like a big mouse that I control with a stylus, so my first tip is you don't need a lot of expensive programs or tools to get art made (I'll post a couple things I made (if I can, unsure how permissions work yet) as examples of what you can do with the cheap stuff).

My second tip is feel free to look at a lot of references basically forever. I'm not saying drawing from the brain from scratch is impossible, I'm just saying there's no shame in it (example again the really detailed Zelda fancomic piece I made looking at references; the tree on the ocean was scratch from brain)

third tip is I agree: practice a ton. I drew for like, years before one day I could make something I actually liked that I made. And stretch yourself in smol ways- start with things that are easy for you and change one thing about them that will be outside your comfort zone (I'm way better with character portraits and black-and-white shading and less-good with huge color landscape paintings and people from behind, again for example)

digital drawing is so fun once you get the hang of it!

if youre already comfortable with the basics (anatomy, perspective, shape language, etc.) id say focus on working on things inherently native to digital drawing. work on color theory and color shifting, or work with palettes to get acquainted with the vast array of colors available. rendering digitally basically makes or breaks a drawing so i'd suggest you also take a deep dive into your favorite artists and see how they render their drawings. also, play around with blending modes! a well-used multiply layer can adjust the tone of a drawing VERY drastically.

in other notes, from my own experience, you might want to have some quality-of-life tips... you should probably work with a bigger canvas (>2000 px) and with at least 300 dpi in case you need to upscale it for printing, etc.
