sorry to barge in on this thread but i need a better comp too, but i need really powerful, i have this very high rated (and very expensive ) PC i was looking at buying:

CPU : Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)
MOBO : MSI P67A-G43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
HD : Seagate Barracuda ST3500413AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s
S.HD : Seagate Barracuda ST3500413AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s
DVD : LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04
GPU : SAPPHIRE 100312-1GDP Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
PSU : Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-750 750W
RAM : CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 CMV8GX3M2A1333C9
CASE : Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
O/S : Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Cooler : XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 120mm Long Life Bearing

a few extras on there i wont get, but with all that the total is 996USD, and it still needs to be put together. This is supposed to be a computer to record games like CPU-heavy Shooters, so it'd expect amazing performance in minecraft, what do you think?

I can imagine it now there are usually 4 screws at the back of the case (might be newer cases though), you then unscrew the two right ones (looking directly at teh back of the case itself) then the side should just slide back and off

I think you're meaning case the CPU is your PC's brain which is usually f1tt3d (this censor thing is stupid, any mods see this let Cyprezz know please?) underneath a fan for cooling, easy mistake to make don't worry about it and yea if you could do that? I'll be able to make a rough idea and list some cards for you

Ok so your maximum memory (RAM) is 1.5gb, you have 3 slots to achieve this, whether or not all 3 are being used (I doubt this, it will most probably be 2x512mb) you could, for now, push to a third RAM at 256mb? I'm not sure without having the board in front of me what video cards would fit, I'm assuming it's ATX as that's the standard size so any video card should fit unless you have an awakward capacitor like so, I even went to the lengths of removing my case, avoiding hitting the back fan with side fan and taking a picture of the reason why I never had my ATi Radeon card (sorry for brightness, the L.E.D'S are going and phone used it's flash )...

I'm guessing you don't know what motherboard you have? If you download a program called Speccy (not a typo) then run it and tell me what your board is I could help you upgrade to a budget if you wish?

Your PC is using a lot just to try and run Minecraft (that's what the red jagged part is) do you lag even on lowest settings? One question before I make an answer for you how much RAM do you have?

Here's a pic of my system running Minecraft:

Now, I don't have an amazing PC myself, pretty basic gaming one actually.. I have 4gb RAM with 2gb of that dedicated to Java, on top of that I have a dual core CPU and a nVidia GeForce 9500GT 1gb, not your average top of the range gaming rig

Now, here's my case:

It just looks fancy, to be fair you probably only need to spend less than £100 or $150 (going by a rough estimate on the currency exchange), it plays it so I wouldn't go out and buy a top of the range ATi card just get something cheap, ask the guys in your local store I was a pain when I purchased mine, I think they sold me it to shut me up

*EDIT: In total I have spent:

PC (eBay): £210
Video Card (Maplins): £70 (after spending £80 on two other cards which did not fit due to a capacitor stopping the heat-sink going in)
Case (Maplins): £49.99

Add that up we have: £409.99

I didn't want the case, I needed it, my old one didn't give me the cooling options I needed, I now have 5 fans. But like I said you don't need all this stuff, you'll need more RAM (check your MotherBoard to see if you can upgrade anymore) and a cheap video card (make sure your specs get better, you don't want a card that won't play Minecraft)

Maybe not quit playing, but get a better computer. They can be expensive so that may not be an option. Skill will come in time, just think of a idea and maybe draw it out. I do sometimes and I can't even draw a straight line, lol.

Other options to lower your lag would be to change your view distance from "far" to "normal" and set graphics to "regular" from fancy.

(and if you have about a billion mods installed like I do, you might want to try with a couple less.)

You are lagging because you are using a high res texture pack, use a lower res one then try.
