I picked pickaxe because it is useful not like a snowball lol but they can be useful when fighting blazes in the nether

Every tool can have its uses, and all of them can save you a lot of trouble. I'll vote pickaxe only because I use it the most. However, I'll cover why I like a lot of the choices up there as well.

Axe: Damage, mostly. It cuts trees too I guess. Smite V axe is an instant kill for unarmored zombies and skeletons.
Shovel: One word; terraforming.
Flint and Steel: Erm... it can light bombs! What else do you need? Oh, it lights the nether portal too which can be important.
Bucket: Liquid transport (particularly useful in Modded) and of course negating fall damage with water.
Fishing Rod: Free food and potentially mending.

Snowballs lost their useful behavior a while ago, shears are just an afterthought to me.

And I'm not going to be immature and remark on the hoe.
