Ageism is just being safe. I'm an op on a server and 9 times out of 10, the younger players cause more trouble.
Its hard right now for younger kids to imagine what being more mature is like, Thats certainly the perspective i've gotten when I think back to when I was younger.
Once again though, Its not an absolute. There are very mature kids, and immature teens/adults. But those are rarer cases.

Being ageist or a hater makes it impossible for you to find the people who are actually pretty smart and talented, young or weird or not... Im surrounded by ageists and haters, so im not motivated to do anything with my life. It made me not want to do anything because of the possible bad outcomes. Hate and ageists together.

People say "GET OFF MINECRAFT YOU NERD!" and like the next day i make $160 off my "Minecraft" server, so im like, suck it jerks
Here is my personal opinion:
1. YouTubers: Different people, SkydoesMC, CaptainSparkles, BajanCanadian, etc
all work hard on their servers/videos to make their stuff appeal to their audience. I don't think there is anything wrong with people calling gold butter or anything. Just as long as they aren't being rude about it. To be honest anyone could like those youtubers at any age. It IS made towards a particular age group, but that doesn't mean older people can't enjoy it. My only problem is when they cuss.
2. Age and Gaming: I'd say to be honest that 5+ is the beginning age era of minecraft.
I feel like so many people are geared towards the fighting/surviving aspect of the game they forget the Creative/Imagination part of the game. Different people like different things and if your not into building than go ahead and play survival! I love going to do SG or quake on a server but I still am more geared towards creative. But none of that means younger audiences should be playing M rated games or killing people in CoD or anything in Halo or anything. It's great if your older and mature enough to handle it. Even if you are younger as long as your mature and responsible seriously go ahead and play CoD!
3. SkyDoesMC: I'm just going to quickly refresh things from the top. Calling gold budder is what you like calling it. That's ok. As long as your not rude about it, it can't hurt anyone, call it what you like. He does go far into depths to make his videos appeal to younger audiences. But I think he goes way over the top with his cussing. I hope he doesn't cuss like that in real life, and if he doesn't than why would he in his videos? Watch what you like. Just handle your decisions responsibly and maturely.

I don't care to watch sky or anyone just because it doesn't interest me. Either I turn it off at the cussing or get bored. Basically just do what you know you can handle maturely and responsibly. Be kind and happy in life. If you can be kind and happy than your doing great! You'll have your ups and downs in and outside all situations whether it be gaming or not. If you can find something that interests and excites you than great for you!

I'm 12, and moderator on a good server. They accepted my application because of my maturity level. I'm often mistaken on the internet to be 15-20 years old, and people are surprised when they find out. I don't carry my age around like a flag like some people do, but I don't lie about it to make me seem better or have a better chance of being a staff member. I have my maturity, and that's all I need.

Anyways, pertaining to the topic at hand:
I'm 14, and a sophomore in high school. So yeah, my maturity has its highs and lows. For the most part, though, I'm decently stable. I've been Admin and Moderator on quite a few respectable servers, and have owned a couple with success. The only M-rated games I've played are Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I've played them one time each, BO for 2 hours and MW3 for half an hour. Even though I did pretty well, I did not enjoy them. They felt so... Senseless. What made it worse was hearing my friends/relatives talk about it so lightly. As if it was normal, slaughtering other humans in a gruesome fashion. It's not, and was never meant to be. No one wants to fight in a war, forced to kill other humans in order to survive, and to support an idea that isn't even theirs. Yet when we play these games, we talk about them like they're just a normal part of life. Sure, they're just a GAME. But these GAMEs influence our lives more than we think. Whether you like it or not. Like I said in my previous wall of text, you may not feel the effects of these games now, but later, you will. I'm just trying to help. These games are like drugs, alcohol, and porn. They're going to wreck you in the long run, unless you have some sort of defense. And the only defense I know of is... Well, we can't mention religion here, so I won't.
tl;dr: The de-sensitizing of teenagers doesn't seem so problematic now, but just wait and see. Just because you don't go out and stab people doesn't mean you're perfectly fine.
The long run is something that is so overlooked in today's society. It's all about the here and now. Foresight is gone. Age will matter. Age does matter. You've got your whole life ahead of you to enjoy. Don't waste it doing things that you're not ready for. At least wait for your brain to finish forming.

there are many instances that age matters. some people think that age has correlation with maturity, which sometimes it does, but thats not always the case. i play this game called dota 2 (tis amazing) and there are lots of 10 year old better at it then me
