Something I've written (this was a lore for a rp server I was helpig out):
The sun rose over Lidera , shop keepers were bustling around trying to prepare their shops for the working day, but still the King was distressed for his kingdom had now been at war against a neighbouring kingdom for a whole month.
The king sighed, “Son, you are the kingdom’s only hope, you must learn quickly.”
“How,” The Prince, Edward looked to his father sensing the fear in his eyes, “ I can’t fight, you know I can’t, and I never will, I don’t understand why can’t you lead the kingdom to victory?”
“My life is ending, I am not strong enough, but you, you have your whole life ahead of you, and you can do whatever you want with it.” At that the king began to gaze out the room in his chambers, and watched his citizens peacefully going about their daily business, if only they knew what was going on beyond the kingdom’s walls. For out there, their brothers, sons and fathers were risking their lives fighting what appeared to be a losing battle.
The prince was pondering what his father had said and walked out of his chambers, and prepares to go out on a hunt. As he left the king, a servant walked past holding a silver platter covered with an array of fresh meats and vegetables for the king.
The servant placed the platter on the side table next to the king’s bed.
“Take it I won’t eat it, and you need it more than me,” he said while eying the servant’s skinny body in sympathy.
Meanwhile the prince had been tacking his horse, in preparation for the weekly hunt, although this week he was not looking forward to it, not that he ever really enjoyed it, but today, there was too much on his mind.
A knight, Sir Lakewood, entered the stables, in full iron gear.
“Sire, I am ready, we shall leave when you wish, the others are waiting by the gates.” Sir Lakewood announced before whipping his horse and galloping off towards the main gate. The young prince then, mounted his horse and with cloud of dust he was cantering after him.
*******************************
A greasy haired prisoner muttered to his companion, a shorter hunched man, “It is done, and even though he said to the servant that he would not eat, he later proved that his stomach has ruled over his head.”
“What if we are found out, Aragrog we could be killed!” The shorter man retorted.
Aragrog stared at his companion in disbelief, “That is not the point; the point is that it is done, and he cannot escape now. Then it is Kronos’ who shall act, they will not stand a chance.”
A guard nudged at Aragrog’s back with his sword, “Come forward, you horrible scum, the king will see you now.”
The two prisoners stepped forward, their every move being surveyed by the king.
“Glad you could make it,” The King looked at the scroll in front of him, “Aragrog, and…Gredard.”
The prisoners grinned devilishly as if they had planned al this, and every last atom was in place.
“You have been,” the King coughed and spluttered, “Because….Because…” the king started to shake violently before collapsing on the floor.
Five guards ran towards the King checking his heartbeat, but it was too late, his face had gone pale and his body was cold. He was dead.
****************************************************
The Prince had been staying in a inn, in the peaceful village of Reckwitch, when the messenger arrived, with the bad news.
“My lord….” The messenger was sweating with anxiousness, “Your father……..he …”
“He…what?” The prince was clearly agitated at this point, “spit it out!”
“He….is dead sire”, the messenger gulped.
The young prince was shocked, he had never really liked his father, but now he was gone, things changed. The one thing that didn’t change, however, was his attitude to fighting, he muttered to himself, “I can’t do this….I can’t fight.”
The servant looked at the prince, astonished, “Pardon me my liege, but for a moment I thought you….,” He laughed, “No I must be mistaken.”
Having made his mind up the prince abruptly said, “We shall leave now, I must get back to the kingdom, take Sir Lakewood’s horse, she is much quicker, leave him your horse.”
“Yes Sire,” The messenger said before hurrying off to go and get the two horses.
It wasn’t too long until he was back with the horses, the King quickly mounted one desperate to get back to the kingdom.
As the news spread of the king’s death, the once peaceful kingdom became unsettled and anxious for their new king to return.
A servant ran amongst the crowd towards the gate, where a black hooded figure stood waiting for him.
“It is done, and he is dead, but the prince is on his way,” the servant whispered.
The black figure nodded, “He is no problem, the cavalry will sort him out.” With that the figure jumped on a horse and galloped into the distance.
****************************************************
They rode through the forests and the plains as fast as they could, the messenger sensed the urgency in the kings voice when he occasionally shouted, “Faster, they will all be dead at the pace you’re going.”
“Of course, my lord,” The messenger replied, panting.
They were nearing the kingdom walls when they heard it, the sound of cavalry approaching, the young prince had suspected that, due to his father’s death, Kronos would be on his way, but this was way too quick for his liking.
The cavalry were gaining on them, the prince’s heart was in his mouth as he desperately struggled to provoke his horse to move faster, but after hours of galloping through the forests, the horse stopped. The Prince could since death approaching, arrows were flying all around him, but he knew he had to run; the kingdom was depending on him so he used his remaining strength to haul himself through the gates to safety.
************************************************************
The prince burst open the doors to the throne room, and said in a firm voice, “Get the men ready, we are under attack.”
His right hand man, Sir Gretwald stepped forward, “I shall leave for the barracks now my liege, meet me and the men at the gates in twenty minutes.” He then hurried of down the corridor towards the barracks.
The prince already had his armour on for the hunting trip so he made his way to the gates, as he walked through the lower town, the citizens bowed and took off their caps for the new king.
When the prince got to the gates, Sir Gretwald had already assembled his troops, and as he approached Sir Gredwald exclaimed, “Attention! All rise for our new king and saviour!”
The prince was not used to this much attention and generally preferred to be alone, so when the whole army saluted him, he finally realised exactly how hard this would be, and for the firt time since he heard of his father’s death he was scared.
The Prince mounted his horse, looked back at the army, pulled the most fearless face he could and tugged at the reins and shouted, “For Lidera!”
The battle had started well, although the young prince had soon lost his earlier courage, and was now overlooking the battle from the side-lines. He was ultimately watching his enemies die, but it still gave him a feeling of regret. He then made a devastating decision. He was going to run away. The thought hadn’t ever crossed his mind that he didn’t have to stay and fight, he could see it now, how his life would be, free, it overwhelmed him, the thought of freedom. So, with one last salute to his men( not that they could see him, but he felt they deserved it) he was gone.
They won the war, Lidera’s men, but none, however, saw the prince again. His uncle, King Theo, became king after him, and now the story continues…
If you are still unsure then I will be happy to post another example of my writing (hope you enjoyed it!)
