I'm making a carrot on a stick that shoots an arrow in the direction you are looking using command blocks. I stored the coordinates of the player and spawned an aoe cloud a few blocks in front of the player using the new ^ ^ ^ and stored its coordinates as well. To get the direction the player is facing I subtracted the aoe cloud's coordinates from the player's and stored it as three separate objectives that I named xb, yb, and zb. Now I thought I could just summon an arrow with a motion tag and put in xb, yb, and zb but when I tried it the arrow didn't go anywhere. I've tried manually summoning an arrow with the motion tags 0,0,-1 and the arrow didn't go anywhere, however, when I added .0 to every value (0.0,0.0,-1.0) it flew as it should. I tried to add 0.0 to the objectives using commands but it didn't let me do it.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I actually want to know this for direction based motion (used as leaping for mobs) like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df75vdRs7y4
