Advertising Minecraft Server

Hello, I created a Minecraft server with a buddy of mine. We put in a ton of effort into creating this Factions PvP server. We even tried our best to use the MyPet plugin so that it fits the PvP system. However, the server is a total bust. The first day it opened, there were 20+ people on, however, it's now rare for us to get above 5 people at once. It's annoying knowing our work has gone to waste. We ran out of advertisement ideas that will not cost us money. We simply do not have the money right now to invest into having our server sponsored on popular minecraft server lists. PMC seems to be the best player to get players, but one bump every 24 hours that gets 20-30 people to view the post and 5-10 people to join does not help much. Not to mention, it stays on the front page of the "Recently updated" section of the server list for less than 2 minutes.
Just to add:
- We want players to stay for the experience on the server, but it's hard to do that when the main attraction for any server is the amount of people on.
More players on = More people join.
- The server is only about 3-4 days old.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we can expand our server that will not cost us money?
I don't want to hear responses of 'YouTube comments' or 'Advertising on other servers'. We will not stoop that low.

First off, dont use beastnode they dont take care of customers with small servers. Second get a dedicated ip, this allows u to switch hosts freely. Third make a gif banner. Fourth go to minecraft-server-list.com and post your server there. Fifth Make sure u give people a good reason to vote and vet ure server out there. And lastly make your server so players come back put your own unique spin on it.

Don't worry about it though. Many people other than you have worked hard on their servers and have failed to keep players on. This even includes me. I'm still even trying to work on it.
