Amazing Specs, LAG SPIKES!??!?!?!?!?!?
So recently I got a new computer which is completely amazing.
2x NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 680 running in SLI.
16GB Ram
Intel 3770k CPU overclocked to 4.5GHZ
BUT
I seem to play Singleplayer. It works fine for about the first 15 minutes, then literally my FPS drops to about 5 or lower and forces me to close it. This happens on Multiplayer as well.
WTF is going on?
I have tried:
Optifine
64 bit Java and uninstalling 32 bit java
Restarting
Magic Launcher
PLEASE, I hope someone can help.

I did the exact same thing, Java kept secretly giving me 32-bit and it lagspiked all to hell. Got 64-bit and I've been good since
THIS is why I love planetminecraft.
Kisses to everyone out there. Turns out I actually DIDN'T have 64 bit java. Feel free to facepalm. As soon as I installed it and allocated more RAM, TWO problems went away.
1) Lag spikes
2) Switching texture packs does not crash my MC anymore.

Minecraft default runs on 1gb RAM, regardless of how much your computer actually has. If you have 64 bit java installed however you can change that and use much more RAM.
My PC is nearly exactly the same as yours xD
I did have this problem, but I updated to 64bit java and everything was fixed. Best I can think of is checked if what your available RAM is, increasing it if needed and allocating more of it to Minecraft.
